⚡️Big news: Massachusetts just hit a third-party energy supplier with a $5.1 million fine for deceptive practices.

MA residents overpaid $73 million in one year compared to basic utility service. And over the past nine years, MA residents have overpaid $651 million. 🤯

CleanChoice Energy, a third-party supplier, sent misleading mailers with outdated utility rates to make their deals appear more attractive. Then, they switched customers to variable rates that increased by 133-214%.

These companies target low-income communities and communities of color, promising savings while leaving them with greater energy burdens.

What can you do? Stick with your utility's basic service or consider municipal programs, such as Boston Community Choice Electricity.

🌄 Carrying the Legacy Forward 🌄

GreenRoots staff had the honor of holding our retreat at the historic Highlander Research and Education Center, joining a nearly century-long legacy of social justice movements that have fought and continue to fight for labor, environmental, racial, and gender justice.

Brilliantly facilitated by Highlander staff, we strengthened our skills in popular education, explored frameworks of land, legacy, and place, and practiced cultural organizing as powerful tools for transformation.

We sang, we danced, we learned, and we bonded and built trust as a team. We remembered that caring for one another and respecting one another are vital to this work. We were also moved and held by the land itself, the beautiful Smoky Mountains surrounding Highlander, which grounded and inspired us throughout our time together.

We left more deeply committed to democracy and liberation for all people, especially the communities with whom we are building power in Chelsea and East Boston. 💚✊

🌄 Llevando Adelante el Legado 🌄

El equipo de GreenRoots tuvo el honor de realizar nuestro retiro en el histórico Highlander Research and Education Center, uniéndonos a un legado de casi un siglo de movimientos de justicia social que han luchado y siguen luchando por la justicia laboral, ambiental, racial y de género.

Brillantemente facilitado por el personal de Highlander, fortalecimos nuestras habilidades en educación popular, exploramos marcos sobre tierra, legado y territorio, y practicamos la organización cultural como herramientas poderosas de transformación.

Cantamos, bailamos, aprendimos y también fortalecimos lazos y construimos confianza como equipo. Recordamos que cuidarnos y respetarnos mutuamente es vital para este trabajo. Además, nos conmovió y nos sostuvo la propia tierra, las hermosas Montañas Smoky que rodean a Highlander, que nos inspiró y nos dio raíz durante todo nuestro tiempo allí.

Regresamos con un compromiso aún más profundo con la democracia y la liberación de todas las personas, especialmente con las comunidades con las que estamos construyendo poder en Chelsea y East Boston. 💚✊

🎉 We are thrilled to announce that GreenRoots has been selected as one of six recipients of the 2025 Community Clean Air Grant from the City of Boston!

With a generous award of $200,000, our team will expand community-informed air quality monitoring in East Boston, including the deployment of new ultrafine particulate monitors, to empower residents with the data and tools they need. 🏙️
