Do you live near the William F. McClellan Highway, or know someone who does? We need your help!

Everyone deserves to breathe clean air. In environmental justice communities like East Boston, accurate air quality information is hard to come by.

GreenRoots, in collaboration with local partners, developed an air-quality app and installed sensors throughout Eastie to collect real-time data. But we need your help!! We have not found any places to host a sensor near the William F McClellan Highway.

If you own property near the William F McClellan Hwy in Eastie and would like to host one of these sensors, contact BarbaraE@greenrootsej.org!

Transit justice through art! 🎨🚌

Seniors at the Chelsea Senior Center created beautiful pieces using recycled materials to share their perspectives on transportation and mobility in our community.

Led by our Transit Justice Organizer, Giovanny, this creative process brought together storytelling, sustainability, and advocacy. We’re excited to celebrate the soft launch of their exhibit and can’t wait for more community members to see it!

A message from our outgoing Development Manager and all-around wonderful human, Priyanka:

Dear Partners, Funders, Supporters, and Friends,

It is bittersweet to announce my transition out of my role as GreenRoots’ Development Operations Manager. My last day was Friday, February 27th. I will be beginning a new chapter in my life as the Executive Director of the Allston Brighton Health Collaborative. I am excited to embark on this new journey while also serving the neighborhood I call home.

Reflecting on the past five and a half years brings me so much joy and gratitude. The Chelsea community means everything to me. I remember the drive I felt during the pandemic, witnessing an entire community come together in such a collaborative and caring way. Writing and releasing the COVID-19 Health Equity Report was one of the highlights of my time at GreenRoots, and it provided a real pathway and concrete recommendations for dismantling the inequities we saw play out during the pandemic. As I transitioned to focus on development and fundraising, it always brought me so much joy to find new ways to partner and collaborate with folks across the New England region while continuing to fundraise for our growing programmatic work.

It has been an honor working alongside you all to fight for environmental justice for the communities of Chelsea and East Boston. I am grateful for all that you, these communities, and this organization have taught me. Although I will miss the connections I have built over the years and, most importantly, my GreenRoots family, I am excited to see how the Development department and organization continue to grow and expand. I promise I won’t be a stranger!

With gratitude,
Priyanka
