Spring is in full bloom, and creativity is blossoming too! 🌸🐇

We had a large group gather to create these whimsy Bunny Bottom Flower Pots. The spring pots combined vibrant flowers, glittery eggs, a tiny carrot, and, of course, a fluffy little bunny bottom. Each creation was as unique as its maker, and the smiles said it all - a fun way to welcome the season and prepare for Easter!

From breathtaking solos to sweeping melodies, life at Silver Maples hits all the right notes and is full of unforgettable experiences! 🎶

Last week we welcomed 11th and 12th-grade students from the 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘂𝗺 (𝗦𝗪𝗪𝗖) 𝗖𝗡𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 to spend a few days with us.

Through their soft skill communication clinicals, these future healthcare professionals spent meaningful one-on-one time with residents—learning their stories, practicing general, psychosocial, and health history interviews, and discovering shared interests. Students explored the community with residents as their tour guide, they assisted with activities, and even led a bingo game in the Meadows Lounge—always a favorite!

The week wrapped up with a fun, hands-on Easter craft organized by our Life Enrichment team, bringing residents and students together for creativity and connection.

We’re proud to partner with SWWC to help prepare the next generation of caregivers and support them as they build essential skills ahead of their clinical rotation in a skilled nursing setting. 💜

We heard the 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗼 was touring mid-Michigan… so naturally, we invited this social media celeb to Silver Maples to see what all the buzz is about.

After a quick crash course with our amazing Culinary Team, it didn’t take long for this hippo to learn the ropes of fine dining in a retirement community—beautifully prepared meals, thoughtful presentation, and of course, a menu that keeps things fresh, fun, and delicious every day. 💜

Our group had a wonderful time visiting the 𝗛𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄, where the Conservatory was transformed into a vibrant celebration of color—featuring stunning displays of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, amaryllis, and more. This year’s show is especially meaningful, celebrating 100 years of growth and inspiration at the gardens—a true tribute to the beauty of every season.

What made the day even more special were the stories shared along the way. Our residents reminisced about the flower gardens they lovingly tended over the years—proof that a passion for growing things never fades.

Luck was all around the community this St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️

From a festive scavenger hunt to fun games and silly jokes in the Bistro, the fun kept going all day long. Residents and staff got into the spirit—sporting fun hats, shamrocks, and plenty of Irish flair that made the day even more festive!

By late afternoon, Happy Hour brought everyone together to raise a glass and keep the celebration going. And of course, our Culinary team delivered—serving up four special Irish-inspired dishes that made dinner feel like a true celebration!

A day full of laughter, great food, and a little extra Irish cheer—just the way we like it!

As the world recently celebrated the excitement of the Winter Olympics, we were reminded that someone in our own community once stood on that global stage.
When David Lean moved to Silver Maples, he brought with him a remarkable piece of history—his silver medal from the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, where he represented Australia in track and field.
David’s journey from Tasmania to the Olympic Games, and eventually to life here at Silver Maples, is a story of determination, opportunity, and the many chapters that shape a life well lived.
