Our funeral home was founded in 1898, and was purchased by Donald Cole in 1977. His son, Allen, bought the funeral home from his father in 1999, continuing the

Joseph Michael Loy of Ann Arbor, age 44, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 25, 2025. He was the son of Woodrow Forrest Loy and Kimberly Leigh Gilbertson. Joey attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. He and his father owned Loy's Automotive Detailing in Howell, which they started from scratch together in August of 2016. Joey married Chrystal Lee Sager on June 4, 2011, and she survives. He is also survived by his parents; and children, Joshua, Damien, and Amira. Cheryl Lee Rose Masters, Dexter, Michigan
Cheryl went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2025, at age 65. She was the daughter of Robert Lee and Darlene BettyAnn (Murphy) Rose. Cheryl graduated from Dexter High School, class of 1977, and later attended Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She worked for Thompson-Reuters for over 20 years, retiring in 2021. Cheryl was baptized at St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ and was a lifetime member. Dr. Gary D. Maynard of Chelsea, passed away on July 14, 2025. Gary was born on March 9, 1941, on the family farm in Dansville, Michigan. Gary attended undergrad at Michigan State and then went on to the University of Michigan Medical School. Gary earned his MD in 1966, served in Vietnam from 1967-68, and moved to Kalamazoo in 1971. He worked for Kalamazoo Anesthesiology and then moved into hospital administration at Bronson Hospital, where he became Vice President of Medical Affairs. After working in similar roles in Dallas, TX, and Phoenix, AZ, he and Mary retired to Chelsea, Michigan. Gary tutored children in reading and math at the Family Learning Institute and accompanied local seniors to medical appointments. He was also an active member of the Chelsea Senior Center Board. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Davison) Maynard; his daughter, Katherine Maynard and her spouse, John Boyd; and his son, Steven Maynard and his spouse, Nadia Kalinchuk. Mark David Easterwood of Westland, formerly of Chelsea, and Flat Rock, age 41, died Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He was the dearly beloved son of David and Beth (Cone) Easterwood. Mark graduated in 2002, from Chelsea High School, and briefly attended Washtenaw Community College and then ComputerTraining.com through their Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Training Program. He became a People to People Student Ambassador at age 13. Mark is survived by his parents. Donna Jean Frisbie of Jackson, formerly of Chelsea., passed peacefully at the remarkable age of 100 on July 7, 2025, at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. She was adopted by Joseph A. Mathes, Jr. and Nina L. (Parsons) Mathes. Donna graduated from St. Thomas School in Ann Arbor in 1943. She worked in retail shoe sales, being the first saleswoman at Shoe Mart, Ypsilanti where she had to advocate for equal pay with the salesmen. In later years she worked at Wanty Shoes and Dr. Scholl’s. Donna was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea Senior Center, and Chelsea Wellness Center where she spent her weekday afternoons swimming the lap pool and setting the radio to her liking. Donna married Jerald Frisbie and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2023. Love and laughter filled their household. Donna was a devoted mother of five daughters who survive: Barbara (Glen) Johnston of Ann Arbor, Nancy (Donny) Ray of Stockbridge, Cindy Frisbie-Gauss (Karl) of Whitmore Lake, Susan (Dennis) Bauer of Chelsea, and Sheri (Ron) Blakley of Chelsea. Leon Douglas “Lon” Sheffer of Cement City, formerly of Livonia, age 81, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025. He was the son of Kenneth W. and Leona M. (Keiser) Sheffer. Lon worked as an electrician for Ford Motor Company at the Livonia Transmission Plant for over 40 years. He loved working on cars, especially his 1967 Fastback Mustang with the 427 engine. He also built engines for other people. On April 3, 1965, Lon married Karen Elaine Freed, and she preceded him in death on August 26, 2023. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Cook of Brooklyn, and Leah (James) Hebert of Howell. Richard Harold Ashley of Chelsea, formerly of Dexter, age 86, passed away July 8, 2025. He was the son of Herman T. and Jean L. (Masterson) Ashley. Richard graduated from Redford Union High School and served as Staff Sergeant in the National Guard both in Detroit and Ypsilanti. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1992, after 32 years of service in Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter, and Ypsilanti; and volunteered at the Chelsea Hospital. Richard married Judith A. McCormick on November 11, 1961, and she survives. He is also survived by his son, Alan (Michelle) Ashley of Chelsea; and daughter, Barbara (Donald) Holiday of Dexter. With great sadness, we share the passing of Brian Barber, Sr. of Stockbridge, formerly of Whitmore Lake. Brian passed away July 8, 2025, at the age of 70, surrounded by family. He was son of Lewis and Eva Marie (Foster) Barber. Brian was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He could not stand to see someone unhappy and made it his goal to make everyone around him laugh. In his younger years, he worked on the oil rigs. In his later years, he mastered roofing. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barb Barber; daughter, Laura (Tony) Kurth; and son, Brian (Becki) Barber. With deep sadness and enduring love, we share the passing of Craig Millard Yost of Jackson, formerly of Concord. Craig passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by family and close friends after a brief illness of six months. He was the son of Millard Walter and Ethel Mae (Stevens) Yost. Craig graduated from Concord High School in 1967. Craig is survived by his loving daughters, Corrie (Brian) Castle of Jackson and Jamie (Rick) Brandon of Chelsea; stepdaughter, Shelly (Gary) Stolicker of Holt; his mother, Ethel Yost of Concord; brother, Gary (Debbie) Yost of Cassopolis; and sister, Kathy (Fred) Schultz of Grass Lake. John Victor Griebe of Montrose, Michigan, formerly of Ann Arbor, Chelsea, and Gaines, age 79, passed away June 23, 2025. He was the son of George William and Margaret Edith (Gross) Griebe. John graduated from Rochester High School in 1963. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Education from Michigan State University in 1971, and his Registered Pharmacist Degree from Ferris State University College of Pharmacy in 1976. John worked at Cunningham Drug, DeVaux Pharmacy, CVS, and Sam's Club Pharmacy. John is survived by his wife, Rhonda Lee (Withers) Jesik; his children, Chris (Anna) Griebe of Grass Lake, Kevin Griebe of Ann Arbor, Molly (Jeromy) Avery of Chelsea; and Katie (Jeremy) Duley of Parma; their mother, Linda Winther; and stepchildren, Jennifer (William) Hilla of Howell, Chad Jesik of Howell, Julia (Eric) Lukasiewicz of Byron, and Ashley Wren of Howell. Douglas Albert Stevens of Chelsea, age 89, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025. Doug was the son of Calvin Douglas & Clara May (Kendall) Stevens. On December 10, 1965, Doug married Janet Ruth Van Tassel in Troy, and she survives. Additionally, he is survived by his daughter Dena (Gary) Potter of Chelsea, and daughter Debbie Stevens of Illinois. In the 1950s, Doug served 8 years in the US Marine Corps. He was stationed in California at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro where he “kept ‘em flyin’” as an engine mechanic. He developed his tool and die skills in Chicago, and his work eventually brought him back to Michigan where he settled at his home in Chelsea in 1976. Doug owned and operated S&S Tool Company, and when he was ready to move on to his next adventure, he sold the property and building to the Covenant Church. He then worked at Dana Corporation for many years and made lifelong friends. He eventually retired from Sensors, Inc., in Saline.
