Celebrating Sukkot Together - Community, Joy, and Tradition

Last week, we gathered with staff and residents to celebrate the beautiful festival of Sukkot — a time of joy, reflection, and unity. Under the sukkah, we shared stories, songs, and meals, embracing the spirit of togetherness that makes this holiday so special.

One of the highlights was the opportunity for everyone to take part in the mitzvah of waving the lulav and etrog — a tradition symbolizing harmony and gratitude. Residents and staff came together to learn, connect, and experience the deeper meaning behind these special rituals.

From decorating the sukkah to sharing laughs over festive treats, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and community.

Congratulations to Steve Saling, CEO of the ALS Residence Initiative, and Barry Berman, CEO of Chelsea Jewish Lifecare, on receiving the 2025 Gupta Family Endowed Prize for Innovation in ALS Care from the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Mass General.

Their groundbreaking work at the Leonard Florence Center for Living continues to redefine independence and dignity for individuals living with ALS.

Crafting Joy for Sukkot!

This week, we had so much fun building our very own craft paper bag sukkah with the Elijah Society! Everyone got creative decorating and designing their mini sukkahs — it was amazing to see so much imagination and teamwork in action.

We even had a special visitor join us, who sang a beautiful Sukkot song, filling the room with music and celebration.

What a wonderful way to welcome the season of joy and togetherness!

Legacy Lifecare VNA and Hospice recently hosted an informative presentation on Pain Management for residents at Kaplan Estates. The session focused on education around strategies and techniques designed to help reduce pain, restore mobility, and enhance overall quality of life.

Last week we celebrate Susan Maher for 15 years of dedicated service at the Leonard Florence Center for Living.

Susan has been part of LFCL since the day we opened our doors. As a nurse, she has provided exceptional care to residents in many of our houses over the years. Known for her kindness, compassion, and commitment, Susan has touched countless lives and made a lasting impact on our community.

Chelsea Jewish Lifecare was honored to welcome members of the Resilient Aging Environments Network (RAEN), part of The Center for Health Design, to the Leonard Florence Center for Living.

As part of their conference, a group of architects, designers, owners, operators, and professors toured LFCL to explore innovative approaches to senior living environments. Barry Berman, CEO of Chelsea Jewish Lifecare; Ina Hoffman, Director of Special Projects at the Leonard Florence Center for Living; and Betsy Mullen, COO of Chelsea Jewish Lifecare, represented Chelsea Jewish Lifecare in sharing our mission, history, and commitment to creating supportive and person-centered environments.

The visit offered an engaging opportunity to exchange ideas with industry leaders who are advancing the future of senior living design. We are proud to showcase LFCL as a model of innovation, community, and compassionate care.

Yesterday we proudly hosted our First Responder Thank You BBQ at the Leonard Florence Center for Living. With a wonderful turnout of about 50 attendees, it was an opportunity to show our deep gratitude to the firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel who protect and support our community every day.

We are grateful for their dedication and service and we were honored to celebrate them with good food, conversation, and connection.

A Special First Ride!

Last week marked the inaugural trip of our brand-new bus for the residents of the Leonard Florence Center for Living! This exciting addition was made possible through the generosity of our dear friends and donors, Frank and Judy Mastrocola. Their kindness and commitment to our mission will make a lasting difference providing greater opportunities for our residents to explore, connect, and enjoy outings in comfort and style.

Residents, staff, and friends gathered to celebrate this special moment, and the smiles said it all. We are deeply grateful to the Mastrocolas for making this dream a reality.
