5 Most Common Knee Injuries and How They Happen
Knee injuries are among the most common problems we see in active individuals. Whether you’re an athlete or just staying active, understanding how these injuries occur can help you prevent them.
1. ACL Tear (Anterior Cruciate Ligament)
Usually happens during a sudden stop, pivot, or awkward landing. Common in sports like basketball, soccer, and skiing.
2. MCL Sprain (Medial Collateral Ligament)
Often the result of a direct blow to the outer side of the knee, pushing it inward. Typical in contact sports such as football or hockey.
3. Meniscus Tear
The meniscus acts as a shock absorber in your knee. A quick twist while your foot is planted—especially when turning or lifting—can cause this cartilage to tear.
4. Patellar Tendinitis (“Jumper’s Knee”)
An overuse injury from repetitive jumping or running. The tendon below the kneecap becomes irritated and inflamed, leading to pain during movement.
5. Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome)
Caused by muscle imbalances or misalignment of the kneecap, leading to pain with stairs, squats, or prolonged sitting.
At Curtis Chiropractic, we focus on restoring balance, alignment, and strength to keep your knees stable and your body moving freely. Chiropractic care, massage therapy, and functional rehabilitation can make a real difference in recovery and prevention.
