March is National Women's History Month. The women of NNPEN and the members of our network have made us what we are today in 2026.
Today we honor founder Dr Lorraine Bock and provide her testimony to NNPEN:
"When I started my first Nurse Practitioner practice back in 1999 there were no other Nurse Practitioners doing what I was doing in Central Pennsylvania. I didn’t receive any business training during my educational process to become a Nurse Practitioner. I relied on the school of 'hard knocks' and organization such (as SCORE) to help me make business decisions; all those resources helping me get through. I made a lot of mistakes which cost me time, money, and emotional capital.
I started NNPEN with my colleagues to provide Nurse Practitioners who wanted to start their own practices a resource of experience, so that they didn’t make the same mistakes that I did. In the nine years since we started NNPEN we’ve helped dozens of Nurse Practitioners to make good solid business decisions, we’ve provided sound business education, we’ve curated a list of vendors necessary to practice owners who are reliable and understand the Nurse Practitioner model, and we’ve provided a community for these Nurse Practitioners to get together and share their joys and triumphs and solve their problems jointly.
If NNPEN had been around when I opened my first practice, I could've have avoided lot of mistakes and would have saved lot of money. Our goal is to create a community of support for Nurse Practitioner business owners, as well as provide the resources they need to be successful."
