We were excited to host Professor Gabriella Vigliocco, one of our Scientists in Residence, at the Institute last week! During her visit, she met with scientists and postdocs, and she gave an excellent invited lecture on the role of gesture in novel word learning in children and adults.

Dr. Laurel Buxbaum is a Professor at Thomas Jefferson University and Director of the NIH-funded Cognition and Action Lab at our Institute. Her research bridges cognitive neuroscience and neurorehabilitation, focusing on how the brain represents actions. She investigates these processes in individuals with stroke, limb loss, and neurodegenerative conditions to identify targets for effective rehabilitation.

Our Institute Director Dr. Dylan Edwards and colleagues recently published results from their research investigating mechanisms of post-stroke motor recovery. Better understanding the structural and functional brain changes that are associated with motor improvements is important for developing more effective and more targeted treatment strategies for stroke rehabilitation.

is a powerful but underused tool for improving quality of life in people with Parkinson’s disease—yet it receives only a small fraction of research funding. In our latest blog post, Dr. Aaron Wong argues why rehabilitation research deserves a seat at the table alongside drug and surgical interventions.

New paper from our Scientist in Residence, Prof. Gabriella Vigliocco, and colleagues at UCL! 📢

They've developed an automated method for generating concreteness ratings using multimodal transformers + emotion-finetuned language models, and their results show that this approach could be an alternative to time-intensive and costly ratings performed by human raters.
