Margerum Cemetery

Margerum Cemetery All of the land in the Margerum Community north of the highway, including the cemetery plot, once belonged to the Oates Estate.

It was deeded to the Oates family by the US Government about 140 years ago. Later, the exact date is not known, a portion of the Oates Estate was acquired by the Roberts family. This included the cemetery plot. James L Roberts, the grandfather of M D Wallace, set aside a plot for a burial place about 1835. It was not deeded to any organization or church, since there was no church located in this a

rea at that time. Later a non-denominational church was built near the SE corner of the cemetery plot. This little building was also used as Margerum's first public school. (This is from a history compiled and written by Luther Harris and Clyde E Vinson, 8-8-1954)

Happy Memorial Day weekend and Margerum Decoration Day! I wanted to let everyone know we will not be putting any flags out on military graves this year due to the weather. We have had a very wet and stormy May this year. Please be safe and be thankful for those that paid the ultimate price for our freedom!

Good morning! Donation cards were sent out a few weeks ago and I’ve already started to receive in donations! THANK YOU! But unfortunately, I’m getting cards back for non deliverable. I’m not sure if addresses have changed or the person is deceased. I will send out a list of the cards that have come back later on today.

Hey everyone! I hope you are doing well. It’s that time of year again that we send out our donation cards to help keep our sweet little cemetery clean and maintained. Mitchell Johnson has agreed to keep our cemetery looking beautiful again this year. We wouldn’t be able to do this each year without your support and continued donations. I know times are hard and I know they get harder each year, but just a little goes a long way. I will be mailing the postcards out this Monday. I do apologize for getting them out late, but I recently lost my mama and my heart has been broken and I just feel lost without her. I soon will be laying her ashes to rest. I’ve attached a picture of the postcard being sent in case there is someone on here that is not on my mailing list would graciously donate. Again, I appreciate the love and support you all give each and every year!

My fiance’ Roger Kilpatrick is working to restore the crepe Myrtle bush. He cut several of the dead branches last Saturday. He did say there is new growth and advised Mitchell exactly where to weedeat to not disturb the new growth. Fingers crossed and hands clasped he can save it and get it back to where it needs to be. Please do not take it upon yourself to cut it. Thank you!

Affordable Tree Service will be down to the cemetery soon to cut down the diseased tree. The price for removal is $1000. Thanks to all of you, we have the money to have it removed. I’m sure there are other tree services that could remove it cheaper, but Lee @ Affordable as done work on the cemetery before and I trust his work. Plus he’s a local boy and I’m all about supporting our community even if they live in another town.

We’ve got a not so healthy tree here at the cemetery. I’m going to get Affordable Tree Service out here probably around fall to cut it down. It looks to be dead in a lot of places and we don’t need it to come down on grave markers.

Good morning! This is Margerum’s Decoration weekend. Roger and I will be at the cemetery around 5 pm today if anyone would like to join us in putting flags on all military graves in celebration of Memorial Day!

I want to thank you all for your continued support for our little cemetery. I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Hey everyone! I hope you are all well! It’s that time of year again to raise money to keep our little cemetery looking beautiful year round. We started our season a little earlier because Easter was earlier this year. Mitchell did a beautiful job as usual kicking our year off. The donation cards were mailed out this past Monday. I’m sorry I was running a little behind. You should or have already received your card in the mail. If you are new and would like to donate, please message me under Rhonda Sue Walker and I will send you my address. I have tagged myself in this post. We are so thankful for each of you every year in helping keep our little cemetery looking beautiful. Sadly, we have lost a few donators recently and our thoughts and prayers are with their families.

Please keep on your calendar Margerum Decoration Day is May 26th this year. This is also Memorial Day and Margerum Community Church’s Homecoming. Hope to see you there!

Again, thank you for your continued support.

Rhonda

Just a reminder Margerum Homecoming at Margerum Church and Decoration Day at Margerum Cemetery on May 28th. We will continue the tradition of putting new flags on all military graves.

For Decoration Day, I would love for you to post a picture of your loved ones resting spot along with their beautiful flowers. I hope to see your loved ones honored on our page. Feel free to give a little bit of information about your loved one.
