A new Tai Chi Session for beginners will start on Tuesday August 5th at 6:30 pm and continue for 8 weeks. This one hour class includes qigong in the warm up portion with emphasis on learning to breathe correctly and bringing your awareness inside your body.

Today's reason why you should try Tai Chi and Qigong if you never have...

Lowering of blood pressure, which in turn protects the heart.

When you practice stress levels are reduced and your chi tends to sink instead of rising up. This can lower your blood pressure if you tend to have elevated levels.

Heart disease and stroke are still major reasons for hospital stays and premature death. Even though tai chi is not considered aerobic exercise it does give the heart a workout.

The slow-moving Chinese martial art tai chi is known to increase flexibility and balance. Now, research suggests it's more effective at reducing blood pressure than more vigorous forms of exercise.

Promotes a strong immune system to aid in prevention of illnesses and restores yin/yang balance in the body.

Practicing on a regular basis will keep the heart, lungs, spleen, kidneys etc.. supplied with a greater amount of oxygen which is necessary for healthy cells.

The organs, skin, fascia, tendons, ligaments and muscles all benefit by expanding and contracting with each breath. This helps to balance the yin and yang functions of your body, thus maintaining homeostasis.

Builds strength, endurance and good posture.

The circulation of chi and blood in your body will improve, allowing the muscles and fascia to relax. Also the joints will receive lubrication. These functions will release tension and make it easier for movement.

Once this happens you will feel a more supple and able to stretch easier... less slouching and more uprightness in your posture.

Improvement of coordination, flexibility and balance.

Tai Chi is a whole body exercise and one learns to move the upper and lower body together along with the waist/core. Coordinating left and right side, up and down, in and out allows the body to move in a more fluid and flexible manner.

The shifting of weight from substantial to insubstantial and back again helps with maintaining your balance, which is so vital as we age. Fall prevention is a big deal, if you are in your 40's or 50's and even more so in your 70's, 80's and 90's.
