For 40 years, Jefferson Washington Township Hospital Unit Secretary Alice Wickizer has been spearheading the annual Adopt-a-Child for needy children in Gloucester County. Gifts are also provided to seniors at a local nursing home. This year, hospital employees and physicians bought gifts for 120 children and 70 senior citizens. As Alice is proud to say: “Our work family takes care of families in our community.”

After experiencing care firsthand, one grateful breast cancer survivor is now paying it forward. Michelle Donio, of Buena, NJ, recently raised $21,370 through her annual “Sort for Support” fundraiser — a two-day ranch-sorting event where teams on horseback compete to separate cattle. Proceeds benefit the Patient Assistance Fund at our Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Jefferson in Cherry Hill and Washington Township, helping patients manage everyday expenses so they can focus on treatment. Since 2021, “Sort for Support” has raised more than $60,000. Thank you, Michelle, for making a meaningful difference for patients across our community.

Recently, ovarian cancer survivor and professional vocal coach, Debra Michaels, along with over a dozen of her vocal students (ages 5 through 18) delivered 350 care bags and performed holiday songs for cancer patients and clinicians at the Washington Township campus of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Jefferson.

In 2017, Michaels had surgery to remove her cancer and credits Jefferson Health surgeon Dr. Robin Wilson-Smith, who specializes in gynecologic oncology, with the success of the surgery and the clean bills of health she continues to receive.

Michaels, from Sicklerville, and her students (some of which have performed on Broadway, Walnut Street Theater, etc.) started delivering care bags and performing at Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center – Washington Township in 2019. Each year, the vocal students raise the money to purchase the care bag items (toiletries, blankets, socks, snacks, entertainment) through concerts, raffles and other fundraisers they hold throughout the year. Each Thanksgiving break, the vocal students gather with Michaels to put the bags together and create cards that accompany each bag.

World AIDS Day “Still We Rise” brought together community members, advocates, patients, providers, and partners for an afternoon of remembrance, education, and collective action on December 2, 2025. Hosted by Jefferson Health, it honored the resilience of those affected by HIV/AIDS while reaffirming Jefferson’s ongoing commitment to prevention, treatment, advocacy, and compassionate care.

Jefferson Health's Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ at Jefferson Cherry Hill, Stratford, and Washington Township Hospital's congratulates its newest graduates! Fourteen Cohort 18 nurses recently completed their program. The residency, an evidence-based 12-month program focusing on leadership, patient outcomes, and professional development, provides support as the new graduate nurse transitions to practice at the bedside. The length of the Residency Program is one year, with monthly four-hour sessions. Sessions are spent with content experts who explore a variety of clinically relevant topics.

We’re celebrating a major milestone at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital!

Ritam Ghosh, MD, and our neurosurgical team have successfully completed the hospital’s first Paired Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) therapy procedure for stroke rehabilitation and recovery — an accomplishment more than a year in the making.

This advanced neurorehabilitation therapy is now available for the very first time at our South Jersey campus, expanding access to innovative treatment options for stroke survivors in our community.

Kudos to the colleagues at Jefferson Cherry Hill, Stratford, and Washington Township Hospital's for collecting a large assortment of non-perishable foods to provide a warm and plentiful Thanksgiving for hundreds of families in our neighborhoods. A big shout out to the volunteers who checked and sorted the food donations, ensuring food packages were intact and canned goods were not expired.
