Has your knee pain been blamed on a torn meniscus? Consider reviewing an excellent study of people over age 50 published in one of the world’s most prestigious medical journals, the New England Journal of Medicine, which found: “Sixty-one percent of the subjects who had meniscal tears in their knees had not had any pain, aching, or stiffness during the previous month.” Here’s the study. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2897006/

The conclusion: “Incidental meniscal findings on MRI of the knee are common in the general population and increase with increasing age.” Or to translate into common English: Lots of folks, especially over 50, have a torn meniscus yet do not have pain or dysfunction.

Before having surgery for knee pain blamed on a torn meniscus, consider trying one or two treatments of Tandem Point Therapy first. If you do not notice a clear improvement in your first visit, you will not be scheduled for another appointment for the same problem.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the knee is often performed in patients who have knee symptoms of unclear cause. When meniscal tears are found, it is commonly assumed that the symptoms are attributable to them. However, there is a paucity of data ...

Do you have difficulty lifting your arm or have pain in your shoulder after your vaccine, even weeks after your vaccine? The injection site appears to be the center of multiple myofascial pulls affecting motion in the shoulder. Consider trying Tandem Point Therapy. Thus far, patients with this pattern have reported no pain and demonstrated full range of motion at the end of their first visit. Your results may vary.

The respected peer-reviewed medical journal TheBMJ lays out the evidence for using acetaminophen [Tylenol or generic] for fever with Covid-19 instead of ibuprofen and NSAIDs. Multiple experts express significant concerns about taking ibuprofen with the fever caused by Covid-19. Please consult with your physician if you suspect that you have symptoms of Covid-19, and follow the guidelines of the CDC.

Scientists and senior doctors have backed claims by France’s health minister that people showing symptoms of covid-19 should use paracetamol (acetaminophen) rather than ibuprofen, a drug they said might exacerbate the condition. The minister, Oliver Veran, tweeted on Saturday 14 March that people ...

Have you been taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for longer than 30 days? Sobering research in the prestigious medical journal BMJ finds extended PPI use associated with significantly increased risk of all-cause mortality (death) in a very large analysis of male American veterans. If you are taking PPIs (examples include Prilosec, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix, Nexium, and Zegarid), consider printing out this article and making an appointment with your physician for consideration of alternative medication (H2 blockers are associated with a lower death rate) or other treatment alternatives.

Look carefully at the charts in this article.

“Conclusions. The results suggest excess risk of death among PPI users; risk is also increased among those without gastrointestinal conditions and with prolonged duration of use. Limiting PPI use and duration to instances where it is medically indicated may be warranted.”

Do you consume caffeine on a day when you also receive acupuncture? You might wish to rethink that combination. The National Institutes of Health has spotlighted well-controlled high-quality research in mice showing that *caffeine consumption in advance of treatment eliminates pain relief from acupuncture* for both acute and chronic pain. In some cases, acupuncture after caffeine intake actually increased post-treatment pain. The results of this study are inconsistent with a theory that acupuncture achieves pain relief through the placebo effect. Since 90% of Americans consume caffeine daily, it might explain why some people fail to achieve pain relief from acupuncture. Unless subsequent research in humans shows that caffeine does not affect acupuncture pain relief, and since the mechanisms of acupuncture and acupressure overlap, individuals receiving both acupuncture and acupressure might wish to avoid caffeine on the day of treatment, or choose to receive treatment several hours after consuming caffeine. https://nccih.nih.gov/research/results/spotlight/needles-coffee?nav=govd

Researchers find that even the small amounts of caffeine that remain in the body hours after drinking a cup of coffee could potentially reduce acupuncture’s effect on pain. The study was supported by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH).
