Dr. Windy Blades Helping others find clarity and peace through healing their mind, body, and spirit, for full-body wellness. Army Combat Veteran, and a perpetual student.

Life can be hard, but it is OUR decision on how hard our lives can and will be. I am a daughter, niece, mother, grandmother, disabled U.S. When I finished my military commitment (1996), I wanted to find a way to give back to my community and military/veteran family. This is when the Tactical Health & Wellness Center planning started to percolate. I wanted to create a space for people like me: those with physical limitations due to my military service. This also translates to First Responders, as their injuries can be similar in nature. The goal is to heal the body through mind, body, and spirit rehabilitation modalities in a clinical and post-clinical environment. At one point in my life (2004), I worked with a local (to Hampton Roads) Minor League Football team as a sideline trainer and medical support. I did that for 10 years and LOVED IT. I found, during that time that I had an aptitude for health, and how the body works and moves. Understand, that at that time, I was carrying about 100+ extra pounds on my 5'2" frame and was unhappy with my life and its trajectory. I started to do a deep dive into my life. Retrospective soul-searching can be painful, but extremely enlightening. That was when I changed my educational path from Administration, because I was good at it, to Health Sciences. After all, that is my calling. I found that I was the one that was keeping me from truly moving forward to living my truth. I had not been listening to God, who was constantly telling me I was NOT on the right path for my life. Let me explain ------

I have been working in the construction field, in some way, for over 30 years: during my time in the military and after. I have worked 30 years in the government space and then in 2021 made the jump out of that space into the Healthcare space (still in Construction, by the way). During all of this time, I was still struggling with my weight and my own mindset. I have been on my own self-care journey over the last 10-12+ years, to remove my own blockages. I came to the conclusion that I was holding on to past traumas and it was preventing me from moving forward in my personal and professional life, as well as preventing me from dropping the extra weight I was carrying. In July of 2023, I was DONE! I was fed up. I HAD to do something and really leaned into making a change. I found an incredible program to partner with for meal planning, a training program, the appropriate supplements to assist, and working with an amazing coach. Joining the Sculpt Nation family and the VShred Program was a game changer for me. Couple that with the work I have done with GypSea Roots Collective in clearing my Chakra, and I have dropped over 50 pounds in 7 months. My newest achievement is obtaining my Reiki Master Certification. Granted, I am NOT done with my journey, but WOW, what a journey it has been. Tactical Health & Wellness is the first stage of the Tactical Health & Wellness Center, as the planning for the Center is ongoing; working with the design team on the conceptual plans, to finalize the financial model, which rounds out the business plan. All necessary steps in being able to start the Capital Campaign. More announcements will be forthcoming on milestones and progress on where we are. So, right now, we are focusing on performing Reiki, continuing my Health, Life, and Executive Coaching with a focus on Mindset Transformation, and Business Strategic Operational Change Implementation, which couples with the Executive Coaching. I am so excited that my dream is starting to become a reality, and it is through my journey that this is possible!!! Never give up on yourself OR your dreams. No dream is too big, BUT you must write them down and develop a plan, or they will REMAIN a dream!!

Are you a busy professional who spends hours working at a computer or on your phone? I have a client who is an Architect and one of the topics we have discussed repeatedly is how to relieve and/or eliminate the pain and tension in their neck and shoulders from constantly working on a laptop.

Let's talk about something often overlooked: the impact of poor posture and ergonomics on your body's structural integrity.

Spending prolonged periods in a hunched or misaligned position, or continuously looking down at a screen (computer, tablet, or phone) can strain your spine, leading to muscle weakness, joint pain, and even nerve compression. This isn't just about looking good—it's about preventing long-term damage and preserving your physical health.

The good news? It's fixable! By implementing proper ergonomics, you can mitigate these risks. Simple adjustments like:

✅ Elevating your screen to eye level to avoid neck strain.
✅ Using a supportive chair that keeps your spine's natural curve.
✅ Ensuring your feet are flat on the floor or a footrest.
✅ Taking regular breaks to stand and stretch.

Investing in your ergonomics is an investment in your future health. Don't wait until the pain starts—proactively protect your body's foundation.

Have you ever considered Intermittent Fasting for weight loss? 🤔

It’s a popular method, and for good reason! IF can be a game-changer by helping you:

- Stay in a calorie deficit
- Improve your body’s response to insulin
- Boost your metabolism

But here’s a question we don't always ask: Does age impact how you should fast? The answer is a resounding YES!

As we get older, our hormone balance shifts, and our bodies can become more sensitive to stress. This means a one-size-fits-all approach to IF just doesn't work. What's a simple, effective schedule for a younger person might feel too intense or even counterproductive for someone in their 40s, 50s, or beyond.

The most successful strategy is an individualized one. Talk to a health expert to create a plan that aligns with your age, lifestyle, and unique health needs.

The definition of insanity is to do the same things overall and over again, expecting a different result.

In order to get different results, you have to take DIFFERENT steps, perform DIFFERENT actions, and shift to a DIFFERENT mindset.

Your progress or lack there of us controlled by YOU and you alone!

Winning is being better today than you were yesterday!

Do not compare yourself to others and never give up on yourself. When striving for YOUR goals, focus on being better than YOU were yesterday, NOT better than the person next to you.

Live your life one day at a time. Trying to manage the years ahead can feel overwhelming, but focusing on what's right in front of you can bring a sense of peace and confidence.
This mindset is especially powerful on a long health and wellness journey. When your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) seems impossibly far away, focusing on today is the key to progress.

Instead of getting lost in the big picture, break your journey down into small, actionable steps. This is where SMART goals come in. By making your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound, you can celebrate a new victory every day. These small wins build the momentum you need to achieve your ultimate goal.

Struggling to articulate your feelings? Want to improve your mental and even physical health? Ever notice how emotions start as physical sensations? That lump in your throat or clenched hands are your body's early warning system!

Many of us are emotionally under-literate, using vague words like "stressed." But the more specific your emotional vocabulary, the better you can regulate, connect, and heal. It starts with naming your emotions! Learning to "name it to tame it" (affect labeling) helps your brain cool down and your prefrontal cortex take charge. Instead of "fine" or "busy," try affect labeling! Naming emotions precisely ("overwhelmed" vs. "snapping") calms your brain's "panic button" (amygdala) and activates your wise prefrontal cortex.

By doing so, your body is already sending signals—tune into those physical sensations to decode your deeper feelings. A richer emotional vocabulary not only helps you regulate and connect but is linked to less burnout, fewer mental health struggles, and stronger immune systems! Your words shape your biology. Research shows it can even reduce burnout and strengthen your immune system! So next time, dig a little deeper than "good."

👉 Quick tip: When a wave of emotion hits, pause and ask: "What am I really feeling?" Go beyond "bad" – try "disappointed," "lonely," or "resentful." This helps you regulate, connect, and heal. Plus, a richer emotional vocabulary can even boost your immune system!

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful 4th of July!

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation, a day made possible by the brave men and women who have always stood on the front lines.

Our military protects our freedoms, our veterans carry the legacy of service, and our first responders tirelessly keep our communities safe, often putting their lives on the line. Their commitment extends far beyond their active duty, shaping the very fabric of our society. Let's honor their impact not just today, but every day, by supporting them and remembering the true cost of our independence.

It's tough not being able to join our "Step into Saturday" nature walks right now because of my foot fracture, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't!

I know firsthand how much good these walks do. Even though I'm sidelined, I'm still cheering you on from the sidelines! Keep embracing the benefits of exercising – it's not just great for your physical health, but your mental well-being too. And doing it outdoors and in nature? That's a double win! There's something incredibly revitalizing about fresh air, natural light, and the peaceful sounds of the outdoors.

My current situation is a good reminder about listening to your body. Injuries happen, and recovery takes time and patience. It's frustrating to miss out, but prioritizing healing is key. For those of you out there moving your bodies, remember to be mindful and gentle with yourselves.

So, please keep our "Step into Saturday" tradition alive and well! Get out there, enjoy the beautiful trails, and soak up all the amazing benefits. Every step counts, and I'll be back out there with you as soon as I can. Until then, happy walking!
