1. Say “No”. To things other people can do for themselves and not volunteering either. Then say “yes” to people offering to love on you.

2. Take time to identify what you need and why so you can be intentional about meeting your needs.

3.Incorporate Joy, pleasure, and rest in purpose. Have a solid sleep routine and hobby on deck.

4. Find community and connection that doesn’t need you. Where you can enjoy your time with no responsibility for them.

5. Create a routine and structured schedule that doesn’t have you burning out daily.

And nobody told you that permission isn’t something you wait for… it’s something you take. You keep thinking: “I’ll speak up when I feel ready.” “I’ll show up when I’m more confident.” “I’ll do it when I know it’ll go well.” Meanwhile… your life is on pause waiting for a version of you that only exists after you start. My Healing & Hustle Workbook and courses inside The Barefoot Academy were built for exactly this. Click the link in my bio.

My Story

I, Sharde' O'Rourke, LPC, LMFT, LSATP, CCTP am from Los Angeles, California and currently owns, operates and practices at The Mahoany projek, LLC ( a private therapy practice in Hampton, VA). I am the mother of two, partner/wife to a cool dude and have a eclectic perspective on life and love. I am an eccentric, passionate, considerate, hardworking, amazing human being that has focused my life's journey on assisting with healing and educating others in their journey. I have over 10 years of experience in the mental health/counseling/helping field. I am honored by others allowing me to experience a piece of their lives, explore and process their stories while writing new ones.

I am the Barefoot Therapist because I find that cozy socks bring in a certain level of comfort in my sessions, plus, who doesn’t love cool (and comfy) socks?! I want to help others to heal themselves through my books, my business and my social media. I want to have the hard conversations and provide my expertise to my followers and friends. I look forward to meeting you in your journey.

P.S. , here's a short explanation of the words behind my name:

LPC - Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
