FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
U.S. Representative David Joyce Becomes 170th Co-Sponsor of the Chiropractic Medicare Modernization Act, H.R. 1610
Columbus, Ohio – 9/11/2024 – The Ohio State Chiropractic Association (OSCA) is pleased to announce that U.S. Representative David Joyce (R-OH) has officially signed on as a co-sponsor of H.R. 1610, the Chiropractic Medicare Modernization Act. Joyce’s support marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the 170th member of Congress to co-sponsor the bill and the third Ohio Representative to join the effort to expand access to chiropractic care for Medicare beneficiaries.
H.R. 1610 aims to remove barriers to conservative, non-pharmacological treatment options by improving coverage for Medicare recipients to access chiropractic care. This important legislation would ensure coverage of all services a chiropractor is licensed to provide under their state’s scope of practice; services already covered by Medicare when rendered by other healthcare professionals. Currently, Medicare only reimburses chiropractic services for spinal manipulation, limiting patient access to the full range of treatments that chiropractors are qualified to offer.
“Millions of Americans rely on chiropractic medicine as a part of their pain management plans,” said Congressman Joyce. “By removing barriers to receive these services, this legislation ensures seniors on Medicare have access to the care they need and deserve.”
H.R.1610 has broad bipartisan support, reflecting the growing recognition of the benefits that chiropractic care can offer to patients as well as the importance of making conservative, non-invasive, and cost-effective treatment options available. With three Ohio Representatives now backing the bill, the OSCA remains committed to advocating for its passage.
"This legislation represents a critical step toward expanding Medicare beneficiaries' access to safe, effective, and non-invasive treatments,” said Dr. Brandy Spaulding, Executive Director of the OSCA. “By co-sponsoring this bill, Congressman Joyce is helping to ensure that older Americans have more options for managing pain and improving their health without relying solely on prescription medications or surgery. We thank Congressman Joyce for his leadership in supporting this vital legislation.”
The OSCA urges other members of Congress to join in supporting H.R. 1610 or S.799, its counterpart in the Senate. For more information on H.R. 1610 and its impact, please visit acatoday.org/medicare.
