Today we had a wonderful time celebrating our amazing residents with July birthdays! Our memory care community came alive with laughter, music, and sweet treats.

The room was filled with smiles. Our residents enjoyed delicious cupcakes, beautiful classical violin melodies, and lots of joy all around. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together to celebrate the lives and stories of our July birthday stars. 🎈💕

We love creating these meaningful moments that bring connection, comfort, and celebration to our community. 🥳❤️

We had a beautiful Valentine’s Date Night with our residents and their loved ones! 💖 Each couple had a table with a map of where they met and their anniversary as the table number—such a personal touch to honor their journeys together!

The night was filled with love, a delicious three-course meal, and beautiful music played by our amazing assistant Morgan and her friends. After dessert, we handed out gifts based on the number of years each couple has been married with a special note explaining its meaning. 💎

It truly was a night to celebrate love and connection, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to honor these incredible couples. 💕 Thank you to everyone who made this night so special! 💘

To celebrate National Activity Professionals Week, we asked each of our wonderful activity assistants to share something that represents their “Why”. Why did they choose senior living? Why work in programming? Why memory care?
Here is what Morgan had to say:

My passion for the geriatric population began during my long-term care class and grew through volunteering with Sentara Hospice. Completing my internship with Commonwealth Senior Living, where I rotated through six departments, deepened my love for senior living and gave me a well-rounded understanding of the field. I’m driven to enhance seniors’ quality of life through care, compassion, and dignity. Memory care, in particular, is uniquely rewarding because it allows me to create meaningful moments of joy and connection for residents facing memory related challenges. It’s a chance to make a personal impact by fostering dignity, belonging, and love. During my internship, I found my passion in activities because I could directly see the positive impact on residents. I love creating moments of engagement, joy, and appreciation that enhance their quality of life. To me, a puzzle piece symbolizes my role in the activities department of memory care. Each resident is like a unique puzzle piece, with their own story, personality, and needs. Activities allow me to help connect those pieces, sparking memories, fostering engagement, and bringing joy to their lives. Just as every piece matters in completing a puzzle, every interaction and moment I create contributes to building a picture of belonging, purpose, and connection.

Happy National Activity Professionals Week Morgan and team! 🎉

To celebrate National Activity Professionals Week, we asked each of our wonderful activity assistants to share something that represents their “Why”. Why did they choose senior living? Why work in programming? Why memory care?
Here is what Nikki had to say:

Why did I choose to work in programming? The passion for creativity in a therapeutic fashion. The idea of functionality meeting fun. Helping people while also bonding and building relationships. I always enjoyed caring for others and felt great pride in what I do, but I felt like as a care giver I didn’t have the time or energy to give my residents what they truly needed to flourish in terms of emotional, mental, and physical supports past just basic care and grooming. By working in this field, we’re able to care for all aspects of the person and customize our approach to each person. By doing this we are able to build a meaningful connection with them and allow them to blossom into their best possible self. I chose these flowers specifically because they are all in different phases of blooming, just like a lot of our residents!

Why did I choose to work in memory care? Put simply…. The people we care for. There is something very warm and fuzzy to me about someone who has a hard time remembering most things, lighting up when they see you. Or watching some of our more self-secluding residents come out of their shells and participate. I enjoy hearing their perspective on life and acknowledging their resilience. I also particularly enjoy the feeling of accomplishment when I’m able to “figure out” our less forthcoming residents by spending the time to get to know them personally. Many of them also remind me through their sense of humor not to take everything so seriously. They add a sense of joy and passion to my life through getting to know them and wanting to help them have a better day to day life experience. I chose this opaque piece of sea glass to represent seeing life through their perspectives not only to help us understand them more but also the why behind their actions

Happy National Activity Professionals Week Nikki and team! 🎉

To celebrate National Activity Professionals Week, we asked each of our wonderful activity assistants to share something that represents their “Why”. Why did they choose senior living? Why work in programming? Why memory care?
Here is what Matt had to say:

These are several personal cards that my grandmother made for me before she was diagnosed with dementia; photography, nature, and family were always some of her passions. Working in memory care is special to me, as I have the pleasure of learning about the lives of our residents and allowing them to reminisce through the activities that I help organize and lead. I love being able to provide therapeutic services through my work, whether it’s playing a word game, gardening in our courtyard, or chatting over a cup of coffee. I personally understand how difficult living with dementia can be for both residents and their families, so I strive to brighten each day of every resident in our community. As someone who has been a caretaker of a family member with dementia, it gives me great pride to see our residents enhance their quality of life through the services that my team and I provide as activity professionals.

Happy National Activity Professionals Week Matt and Team! 🎉

🎉 Happy Birthday, Shanelle! 🎉

Shanelle has had a passion for taking care of others since 2007, and she continues to make a positive impact every day. When she's not working, she enjoys relaxing and watching CSI. Her favorite snack? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – but only if they’re frozen! 🍫❄️

Thank you, Shanelle, for everything you do for our community! We appreciate you! 💖
