James Ransom “Jimmy” Jackson, Jr., 79, of Chesapeake, passed away unexpectedly during heart surgery, Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Born in Dunn, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James R. Jackson, Sr. and Agnes Hazel McDonald Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Hope Sheppard and nephew, Dalton “Buddy” Sheppard. Jimmy was a 1964 graduate of Great Bridge High School and later attended Tidewater Community College.
A hardworking and enterprising man, Jimmy served as a supervisor with Virginia Power before founding Jackson Construction, Jackson Lawn Service and later serving the community as a real estate agent. He was a past president of the Tidewater Builders Association. Known for his generous heart, Jimmy was a natural caregiver who would do anything for anyone. He also enjoyed fishing on head boats and taking trips to Las Vegas to try his luck.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Jean S. Jackson; a brother, Ray Jackson (Debbie Hunt); a nephew, Donald Sheppard (Karen), as well as special cousins and a large extended family.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2026 at Briggs Funeral Home and Crematory, 1748 Battlefield Blvd, S., Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James R. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Fund, to benefit local food banks.
