Ronin Wood Projects

Ronin Wood Projects Thank you for looking at my page. My name is Joshua Grable. What started as a small paddle project in 2012, turned into a wood passion.

I was asked to complete a non paddle project in 2015 and everything grew from there. I specialize in paddles, but I am willing to take on any small wood project for gifts and special occasions. Why the name Ronin Wood Projects? Ronin is a masterless samurai. I am a wood worker always looking for a challenge. Handmade gifts are the best and I truly put all my effort into your project.

Greetings! I know it has been forever since I last posted. To say I have been slammed is an understatement. BUT, I will never complain about business. I love making projects for others. I try my best to meet expectations and deadlines to bring that something extra for the special day. I get so wrapped up in the creation, I totally space on taking pictures. I look forward to your request. Feel free to reach out and we can coordinate. AND if for some reason I overlooked your request and we never made it past the initial planning phase, I do apologize.

This was a really fun one to create. First time mounting hats. Displaying members Quartermaster/Boatswains Mate history. Coins from their travels. The center piece is the members Page 7 (negative report) about an inappropriate relationship with his now wife. I thought that was a pretty awesome piece of his career to display. I am really liking the removable frame concept I have been using lately for easy access to the display area if needed. The edge rails are held on with dowels and press against each other (the rails) to lock it in place. Congratulations and safe travels.

Greetings Friends! Figured it was time for a walk down memory lane.
Ronin Wood Projects started during my tour in Guam. I was about to order a paddle from a known company but thought, that paddle is just engraved with fancy work. I can do that. I did a handful of paddles during that time and fell in love with making little gifts.

In 2016 I went through Chiefs Initiation, there are some wood projects you must complete. I bought way too many power tools (table saw!) and tried my best to cut off my fingers.

My mentor was retiring that same year and asked me to make his shadow box, I was extremely hesitant because I had no clue what I was doing and didn't want to mess it up. Well, Everyone loved it.

My other friend wanted one but wanted gun compartments. Again I strongly hesitated because "I have no clue what I am doing!" Again it was a hit.

Next year is when met Matt Rogers. He asked me to do a special Trident project. Now I knew this was way beyond my capabilities. But somehow he got me drunk enough to say yes to it.

The success of that project finally gave me the courage to acknowledge maybe I know what I am doing... Kinda. I filed the LCC paperwork and Ronin Wood Projects was officially created.

Why Ronin? Because a Ronin is a masterless samurai. I am hired to make your project a reality.

I have strived to make one of a kind gifts for my customers. My business has grown tremendously and I am so thankful for your support.

As my name is getting out there, this time (April-July) is a busy time for me. I ask if you are considering a project or placed in charge of one give me at least 3 months notice (especially if you need it by transfer season) but the longer the better. Just booked my first year out project.

I look forward the more unique requests and being able to post the final pictures to share with you.

Okay, the big one I know some of you have been waiting for. The Tactical Delivery Team Shadow box. This was an insane project. The initial concept was a box but when you add the diamond and sword holders it really complicated parts and how to integrate everything correctly.

Made from Peruvian walnut, first time using that wood. It has an amazing figure to it. Cuts easy.

Purple Heart Trident. This is number two. Number 1, you know who you are. Working a small purple heart project is very difficult on your patience, tools and sanity. It is a very dense wood and wrecks tools. It also burns very easy so using power tools on it is not recommended unless your bits are Sharp.

I already had a feeling this project was gonna get real popular and have a couple requests already after presenting. I was asked to make a pew pew box. Never did it but the concept was pretty straightforward (well in my brain). I looked around for ideas and found a site. The work was beautiful, HOWEVER when the prices started at 900 and only went up from there I was floored.

I know this comment will not make me popular with other businesses. I just can't and won't charge that much for a project like this. A majority of my business is Coast Guard and I love giving back to the community. I honestly do my best to keep it within the allowed Coast Guard limit and shipping is covered by the customer. Now if there is a special request for a type of wood or extras, yeah ok I will ask for more. But I am not looking to become rich, I do this for my peace and to give back.

This was a super fun project. I have seen these before but the big difference. 1, a requested hinge opening. 2, the leash to go around the border of the outline. Took me forever to figure out that answer.

The Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Insignia is the insignia earned within the specialized law enforcement community. Originally the TACLET pin, only earned at that unit, it has grown to encompass Maritime Security Response Teams also.

I have been slammed with projects and I love it! But I am horrible at taking pictures. My friends keep telling me to just put up cameras and let them run. Maybe one day.

The Chiefs Anchor. I was so happy to be asked to create this. This is number two. The first one I did was about 3 years ago. Whenever I complete a project, I always look back and think... I should have did this, or cut here. So when I get the opportunity to do a project again. It makes me excited. I hope this anchor is requested again.

It is always an honor to be present when my projects are presented. Especially to see the expression of happiness. Originally this was a surprise, but Deb eventually found out I was working something, she just didn't know what. Cherry and Purple heart chest with presentation area in the lid, a presentation tray, coin racks under and a storage area under that. The inside is made from/lined with ambrosia cedar.

What the Crap Shipping! Not the stress I need right now. Ugh, good thing I get "kicking the package down the street" insurance. Time for some phone calls and then starting a project over.
