Greenbrier Family Practice, P.C.

Greenbrier Family Practice, P.C. Greenbrier Family Practice is Dr. Kennedy's former practice location of 30 years. We are sad to say that for various factors it is now closed.

Greenbrier Family Practice was a true patient orientated family centered practice. We cared for the whole family from infant to grandparent, and loved and treated our patients as if they were family. Sadly, though, I reached the point that so many primary care small practices across the nation have experienced, where the increasing line of time from administrative tasks for insurances, management

, medical record keeping, regulations, crosses the downward slope of financial reimbursement and increasing costs of keeping a small practice running, and the decision was undeniable that it was time to close. I will truly miss the actual care of so many that I have been honored to be their “Doc”. I will, as one of my patients suggested, try to keep that “family” of previous patients and friends updated on my travels and journey as I explore how to find the best fit for this next phase of “being a physician”.

The U.S. spent 15 years preparing for the coronavirus. Why did we handle it so badly?

This is just preliminary, but it makes scientific sense and is another good reason to get everyone wearing their masks!!

Mask wearing might also be reducing the severity of the virus and ensuring that a greater proportion of new infections are asymptomatic

Scientists at Johns Hopkins Medicine, experimenting with a small number of human cell samples, report that the "hook" of cells used by SARS-CoV-2 to latch onto and infect cells is up to 700 times more prevalent in the olfactory supporting cells lining the inside of the upper part of the nose than in the lining cells of the rest of the nose and windpipe that leads to the lungs. These supporting cells are necessary for the function/development of odor-sensing cells.

The findings, from a preliminary study of cells lining both the nose and trachea, could advance the search for the best target for topical or local antiviral drugs to treat COVID-19, and offers further clues into why people with the virus sometimes lose their sense of smell.

A summary of the findings appears in a letter published Aug. 19 in the European Respiratory Journal.
