Amedisys Hospice of Chesapeake had the incredible honor of celebrating some of our nation’s heroes through 2 heartfelt Veteran Pinning Ceremonies. 🇺🇸

Amedisys Hospice proudly recognized our veteran patients for their courage, sacrifice, and service to our country. These ceremonies were especially meaningful as we had the privilege of honoring two World War II veterans - true members of the Greatest Generation - whose bravery helped shape the freedoms we enjoy today.

With gratitude and respect, each veteran was presented with a commemorative pin as a symbol of our appreciation. Moments like these remind us that hospice care is not only about comfort, but also about honoring the lives, stories, and legacies of those we serve.

Elisabeth is an Amedisys volunteer and medical student who shares her love of reading, writing and storytelling as a pen pal to our hospice patients. She was drawn to letter writing as a simple, meaningful way to reconnect with the written word and has long believed in the quiet reflection that comes from sending a letter the old-fashioned way.

“Volunteering as a pen pal has become one of the most grounding and meaningful parts of my routine,” she says. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to send kindness this way, one envelope at a time.”

For Elisabeth, the act of writing is itself an offering—a way to show presence, care and curiosity about another person’s life, and a reminder of the value found in slowing down.

Heather, Home Hospice Aide

She is a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant whose compassionate spirit shines through in the care she provides every day. Outside of work, Heather enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends and is a proud dog lover. Vee, Home Hospice Aide

She is a compassionate and dedicated member of our care team. With nearly 30 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Vee brings both skill and heart to everything she does.

Throughout her career, she has worked in skilled nursing, long- and short-term care, and is trained in Alzheimer’s care, giving her the experience and understanding needed to support patients and families with patience and dignity. Known for her kind, gentle spirit and strong work ethic, Vee approaches each day with the same goal — making sure those in her care feel safe, respected, and valued.

For Vee, caregiving isn’t just a job — it’s her joy. She finds true fulfillment in helping others and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people she serves.

Kendra, RN Case Manager

Kendra is deeply passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals and families during life’s most meaningful moments. Known for her empathy, dedication, and calm presence, Kendra takes pride in building trusting relationships and ensuring her patients feel supported, respected, and heard every step of the way.

Outside of work, Kendra enjoys spending time with her friends and family, getting lost in a good book, and relaxing at home with her three purrfect cats. Kendra has recently taken on a new challenge - she is training to participate in runDisney events over the next year.

Nicole is a passionate advocate for patients and families during some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Nicole is a proud graduate of Norfolk State University (Behold the Green & Gold 💚💛) where she earned:

🎓 Master of Social Work (MSW)

Medical social workers are an essential part of the hospice interdisciplinary team, ensuring patients facing life-limiting illness receive care that supports not just their medical needs — but also their emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being.

Nicole provides a compassionate, safe space where patients and caregivers can share fears, concerns, and hopes — helping them navigate the emotional challenges of end-of-life with dignity and understanding.

She works closely with patients and loved ones to explore treatment options, advance care planning, and personal end-of-life wishes so that every voice is heard and respected.

Nicole links families with community resources, counseling, support groups, bereavement services, financial assistance, legal guidance, and help navigating insurance and benefits.

She encourages open, honest conversations among families and the care team, addressing conflicts with empathy, setting realistic expectations, and creating a nurturing, supportive environment.

Nicole’s work is rooted in compassion, cultural understanding, and advocacy — helping families feel supported, informed, and never alone.
