Michael Smith, CPO, Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist, reports a successful prosthetic mission trip to Masaka, Uganda, in conjunction with Montero Medical Missions, resulting in 50 amputees being measured for custom prosthetics to be fabricated in Chesapeake, Virginia, with delivery planned for the upcoming return trip.

🌍 Montero Medical Missions Update: Uganda Mission Partnership 🌍

We’re excited to be here at St. Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church, where we’re partnering on a life-changing mission to Uganda! During our recent fact-finding mission, we measured and cast prosthetics for 50 patients who are in desperate need. Now, we're fundraising to make these prosthetics a reality!

Once the funds are raised, we’ll collaborate with American Orthotic & Prosthetic Center in Chesapeake, Virginia, to build these prosthetics, and then we will return to Uganda to fit them personally.

This is just the beginning—our large joint venture mission with St. Stevens is planned for July/August 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Michael Smith, CPO, Clinical Director at the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Center and Montero Medical Missions, has successfully completed another prosthetic mission in Bayabas, Mindanao, Philippines.
Many amputees have received their prostheses for the first time. Each prosthetic device is custom fabricated for the individual and is provided at no cost to the amputee. Some amputees have gone as long as 7 years post-amputation without a prosthetic device. Our goal is to improve prosthetic care throughout the Philippines by collaborating with local healthcare providers and establishing prosthetic clinics across the country.
