Big News in Women’s Health 👩⚕️

The Gates Foundation just pledged a massive $2.5 billion through 2030 to champion research and innovation in women’s health, especially in areas that have long been underfunded.

This commitment focuses on:
• Maternal care & immunizations

• Maternal nutrition and wellness

• Gynecological and menstrual health

• Contraceptive innovation

• STI diagnosis and treatment

These breakthroughs—from non‑hormonal birth control to preeclampsia treatments and better ways to manage endometriosis—are just the beginning. This isn’t just a donation. It’s a bold call to action for governments, philanthropists, and the private sector to invest in women’s health.

🎗 September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month and National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 🎗

Each year, gynecologic cancers impact thousands of women. These include:
🧬 Cervical cancer

🧬 Ovarian cancer

🧬 Uterine (endometrial) cancer

🧬 Vaginal and vulvar cancers

At CT Coastal OBGYN, we’re raising awareness this month and reminding our patients that cervical cancer is the only gynecologic cancer with a reliable screening test.
✔️ Pap tests and HPV screenings can detect changes early, often before cervical cancer develops.

While there are currently no routine screenings for ovarian, uterine, or other gynecologic cancers, knowing your risk factors and symptoms is essential, so speak with your provider to learn more.

Launched in 1992, World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7), is a global event that takes place in more than 120 countries.

The overarching goal of the week is to highlight the importance of breastfeeding, to encourage and promote breastfeeding, and to improve the health of babies and mothers all around the globe.

World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight the benefits that breastfeeding can bring to the health and welfare of babies and benefits to maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction, and food security. Breastfeeding decreases the risk of mothers developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

World Breastfeeding Week is a collaboration between the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), the World Health Organization, and UNICEF.

☀️ July is UV Safety Awareness Month ☀️

Your skin deserves protection—not just at the beach, but every day.
UV exposure can lead to premature aging, sun damage, and serious health risks like skin cancer. For women especially, daily sun protection is one of the best ways to invest in lifelong health.

Here’s how to stay sun-smart:

🧴 Daily SPF 30+
🕶️ Sunglasses & hats

🚫 Skip tanning beds

🕑 Stay out of peak sun (10am–4pm)

Your skin protects you—protect it right back. 💛
