Staying active during pregnancy can be one of the best things you do for yourself and your baby 🤰. Regular exercise can improve sleep 😴, boost mood, reduce aches and pains, and even ease labor and recovery. But not all workouts 💪 are pregnancy-friendly and knowing what’s safe (and what’s not) is key to a healthy, active pregnancy.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete 🏅 or new to fitness, our “Pregnancy and Fitness: The Do’s, Don’ts, and Safe Moves for Every Trimester” blog can help you understand the do’s and don’ts of pregnancy exercise and offer safe moves tailored to each trimester.

Launched in 1992, World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7), is a global event that takes place in more than 120 countries.

The overarching goal of the week is to highlight the importance of breastfeeding, to encourage and promote breastfeeding, and to improve the health of babies and mothers all around the globe.

World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight the benefits that breastfeeding can bring to the health and welfare of babies and benefits to maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction, and food security. Breastfeeding decreases the risk of mothers developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

World Breastfeeding Week is a collaboration between the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), the World Health Organization, and UNICEF.

🩺 July 10 is Chronic Disease Day — a time to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for the millions living with chronic health conditions.

❤️ Cardiovascular disease

💠 Autoimmune disorders (like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis)

🦴 Osteoporosis

🎗️ Breast and gynecological cancers

🌸 PCOS (polycystic o***y syndrome)

☀️ July is UV Safety Awareness Month ☀️

Your skin deserves protection—not just at the beach, but every day.
UV exposure can lead to premature aging, sun damage, and serious health risks like skin cancer. For women especially, daily sun protection is one of the best ways to invest in lifelong health.

Here’s how to stay sun-smart:

🧴 Daily SPF 30+
🕶️ Sunglasses & hats

🚫 Skip tanning beds

🕑 Stay out of peak sun (10am–4pm)

Your skin protects you—protect it right back. 💛

Today is National HIV Testing Day

When it comes to HIV, knowledge is power. Testing is the first step toward prevention, care, and control.

At CT Coastal, we believe HIV testing should be as routine—and stigma-free—as any other checkup. 💬✨

Let’s talk about it. Let’s normalize it. And let’s empower every woman to take charge of her health through education, understanding, and compassionate care.

💡 Testing is not about fear. It's about self-care.

💜 Connecticut Coastal OB/Gyn is deeply honored to receive the Lawrence & Shirley Bostrom Pillars of Change Award from the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence for our work with the Purple Ribbon Project. This recognition holds profound meaning for our team as we carry forward the legacy of our beloved colleague, Julie Minogue, whose life was tragically taken by domestic violence.
