AWB offers diverse and highly enriched programming for individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Connecticut. AWB currently provides services to 68 clients focusing on integrated employment and day services with a strict focus on the individual needs of each client. Our clients are employed in a wide scope of jobs in the communities we serve. And we continue to look for new and innovative ideas that will allow our clients to share their talents with the greater community. In collaboration with employment services, AWB offers day programs focusing on enhancing daily living activities, gross and fine motor skills, and social and emotional interactions. Our committed staff work to arrange a variety of activities to address each of these areas. In addition to our programming, AWB is a strong advocate for the rights of people with developmental disabilities and continues to spread awareness about the abilities of people with developmental disabilities throughout Connecticut's communities. Since 1978, AWB has helped countless individuals with developmental disabilities lead a more productive and fulfilling life. In 2011, AWB changed our name from Cheshire Occupational & Career Opportunities (COCO) to Abilities Without Boundaries and continued expanding our impact throughout the state. In addition to this change, Abilities Without Boundaries successfully launched a rebranding effort placing advocacy, inclusion and respect at the forefront of all initiatives. What began with a few concerned parents has blossomed into an organization with almost 50 employees who all share a deep and profound respect for the individuals we serve. For more than 30 years, we have been helping to make a difference throughout Connecticut.

Gov. Ned Lamont has activated Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol due to a blast of extremely cold air that will impact the state. It will begin at noon on Friday, Jan. 23, and remain in effect until noon on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies and municipalities to coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to make sure that anyone in need can receive shelter as well as transportation to shelters. Those in need are urged to visit 211ct.org or call 2-1-1 to find available locations.

Under Waterbury Mayor Pernerewski’s direction, the City of Waterbury is coordinating with the State of Connecticut, United Way 2-1-1, and local service providers to ensure warming shelters are available throughout the duration of the protocol.

Residents who need shelter or a warming center in your town are encouraged to call Connecticut 2-1-1, operated by United Way, or visit 211ct.org to locate available resources.

High expectations and equally high levels of support and encouragement lead to excellence. AWB strives for excellence in leadership, education, advocacy, quality and service. AWB envisions customer service that provides businesses with outstanding support, quality work, and clear communication that demonstrate the true potential of our clients to achieve beyond expectations.
