Here's something The Motion of Gratitude comes back to again and again:
The nervous system doesn't know the difference between the past and the present.
For so many people, the body is still responding to threats that are no longer there. The stress response — the one that was designed to protect us — doesn't just switch off because the moment has passed.
This isn't weakness. This is biology.
Nervous system regulation is the practice of helping the body learn that it's safe now. That it can rest. That it doesn't have to stay on high alert.
And one of the most accessible ways to begin that process? Breath.
When we breathe slowly and intentionally, we send a signal directly to the body: we are okay.
