Important Update from the Chester First Aid Squad:

After careful consideration and discussions with both the Borough and Township Councils, CFAS has formally notified local officials that we will continue operating as an all-volunteer, no-fee emergency medical service, the same model that has served Chester proudly for 80 years.

Billing residents for emergency care has never been part of our mission or values. Going forward, CFAS will no longer devote time and resources to explore a transition to a fee-based model. Our time and energy will be fully dedicated to what matters most: our core mission of delivering the highest level of pre-hospital care for our community.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of community support that reaffirms what we’ve always known: our model works, and Chester stands behind it.

We hope the residents of Chester will continue to stand behind us through their donations and support of our upcoming Annual Fund Drive and other fundraising efforts, which are vital to keeping our volunteer organization strong and ready to serve.

It’s that time of year again! We’re proud to join our friends at the Mendham-Chester Food Pantry and the Mendham Township Police Department for our annual gift drive supporting children and young adults ages 1–18.

Great gift ideas for younger children include building blocks, LEGOs, and arts-and-crafts kits. For teens and young adults, pre-paid gift cards, books, Bluetooth speakers or earbuds, board games, hair-care products, watches or jewelry, electronic chargers, and other small gadgets are always appreciated.

Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off at our headquarters at 1 Parker Road, or at the Mendham Township Police Department, 3 Cherry Lane in the Brookside section of Mendham Township. Please drop off donations by December 5th.

Join us in making this another wonderful season of giving!

In honor of CFAS' 80 years of service, we were deeply humbled to be recognized in October by the U.S. House of Representatives, with Congressman Thomas H. Kean, Jr. presenting us with this Congressional Record resolution and a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol. We are extremely proud of our legacy and the generations of dedicated volunteers who have served our community with compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to provide the highest level of emergency medical services.

Important Message to the Chester Community:

The Chester First Aid Squad (CFAS), which has provided all-volunteer emergency medical services free of charge to our community for 80 years, is facing a proposed shift from a municipally-funded model to a billing model by the Chester Township Council.

This proposed change would force CFAS to abandon our long-standing no-fee tradition and become a fee-based agency that would bill your insurance for emergency care, something that goes against our core values and mission. It would also impose operational restrictions that could limit our volunteers’ ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.

Despite trends of declining volunteer rescue squads statewide, CFAS would like to emphasize that we are a thriving, vibrant, and committed team of volunteers who train rigorously, respond compassionately and take immense pride in serving Chester.

CFAS values its 80-year proven volunteer model and is engaging in further discussions with Township officials to ensure the best outcome for the community. We reaffirm our dedication to maintaining compassionate, skilled emergency care for Chester residents.

We will provide updates as discussions with the Township develop. Click here to read our detailed statement:
