Love This!! Yes. Help others in silence. No recognition required or necessary. As my mama would say, "you get your reward in heaven". one of her fav sayings.

Mike Ilitch was the founder of Little Caesars and he quietly paid Rosa Parks' rent for over a decade. After moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1957, Rosa Parks became an important presence in the city for years afterward. In 1994, Rosa Parks was robbed and harmed in her home at 81 years old.

One of Rosa Parks' closest friends, Federal Judge Damon Keith found out about the incident. He worked to find her a safer apartment at the Riverfront Apartments in downtown Detroit. One day, Mike Ilitch read about her story in the newspaper. He immediately called Judge Keith and offered to pay her rent. Mike Ilitch and his wife Marian quietly wrote a check every single month, and continued paying for the apartment until Rosa Parks passed away in 2005.

Mike's generous act was only discovered after he passed away in 2017. Judge Keith wrote about it in his 2013 book "Crusader for Justice." He said, "It's important that people know what Mr. Mike Ilitch did for Ms. Rosa Parks because it’s symbolic of what he has always done for the people of our city." In a world that's often so eager for recognition, Mike Ilitch chose compassion without applause. He saw a hero who needed help and quietly stood by her.

Dr. Jubril Oyeyemi gives free medical care to people who walk into the Cherry Hill Free Clinic with no insurance and nowhere else to go. He founded the nonprofit clinic in Cherry Hill, New Jersey so uninsured and underinsured residents could receive primary care without worrying about cost, according to Camden County officials in New Jersey.

Dr. Oyeyemi earned his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. In 2017, he presented the idea for a free clinic to the Gracious Center of Learning and Enrichment Activities (GCLEA) mosque board. The mosque agreed to support the idea, and it was met with strong enthusiasm. On September 9, 2025, the clinic received a $76,100 grant from NBC Universal's Local Impact Grants.

Today, Dr. Oyeyemi and the Cherry Hill Free Clinic team have served more than 2,500 patients and provided more than 4,000 office visits. In a commentary published in the American Journal of Managed Care, Dr. Oyeyemi wrote, "Anyone who has worked in a hospital can relate to treating a subset of patients over and over again. Their cases are usually confounding, dense, and extend to matters beyond health care." He said that his team worked with patients who had complex medical conditions along with health-related social needs and developed a plan to address both.

Love This Story SO MUCH.... that will be me. :)

When MacKenzie Scott was a student at Princeton, she studied creative writing with Nobel Prize–winning author Toni Morrison. In those classes, it wasn't just about writing. Toni taught her students to notice people, their voices, and the stories that reveal their struggles and dreams. Those lessons stayed with MacKenzie for the rest of her life.

MacKenzie's journey wasn't easy. Her family went bankrupt before Princeton. While waitressing in New York after college in 1992, she struggled to pay rent and wrote to Toni through letters preserved in the Toni Morrison Papers at Princeton University. She continued writing and eventually published two novels.

Toni Morrison passed away on August 5, 2019 at 88 years old. Her belief in empathy and humanity lives on through MacKenzie Scott's extraordinary giving. To date, she has donated more than $19.25 billion to schools, nonprofits, and communities in need, including $1.06 billion to historically Black colleges and universities. Their story reminds all of us how one teacher's care can inspire a lifetime of compassion.
