Today, on All Souls Day, we particularly remember the devotion of every soul who has carried Mercy's mission forward. This plaque, in St. Teresa's Church, Dublin, Ireland, honors some of the first Sisters of Mercy who began our story with faith and sacrifice.

We stand in solidarity with The Catholic Health Association of the United States and Catholic Charities USA to ensure every family has access to the food and care they need during these difficult times.

We stand with Catholic charities USA in their efforts to provide for the millions of people facing food insecurity due to the ongoing government shutdown.

Your donation to their emergency food appeal will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling its impact. Please be generous during these challenging times. https://hubs.li/Q03Q-FMs0

Throughout the month, leaders across Mercy gathered for a Leader Learning Experience, where together we explored ways to advance disability inclusion in every one of our communities through learning, sharing and leading with purpose. This experience was more than a session or seminar — it was a meaningful conversation about inclusive leadership, accessibility and belonging. Thank you to Sally Coble, Jessica Whitson and Justice Phillips for leading the presentation shown here at Mercy Hospital Fort Smith!

Did you know that up to 98% of upper respiratory infection (URI) cases lasting a few days are viral? Here’s what you need to know about the other 2%.

While viral infections usually require symptom management, bacterial infections often need antibiotics. Using the wrong treatment can make things worse or contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Judy West "felt like her doctor, nurses and an entire medical team were coming home with her. In a way, they were."

Owensville is about 45 minutes from Mercy Hospital Washington, but when Judy West was discharged just days after having a heart attack Feb. 8, she didn’t worry about that distance.

This week we joined The Catholic Health Association of the United States and the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in praying for racial justice and reconciliation.

The death of George Floyd last week and the protests that followed have opened the eyes of the world to the systemic racism that continues to haunt us. This is a painful reality we are all too familiar with, as racial, economic and educational disparities have deep and lasting impacts on the health of the communities we serve.

The Sisters of Mercy have worked against racial inequality and injustice for generations, and we will continue to do the same, not only as health care professionals, but as women and men who believe each person is made in the image of God. It is He who instructs us to love justice…and one another.

Together, Mercy mourns the painful and unjust death of George Floyd and other people of color and recognizes that health is not possible when our co-workers, patients or communities live in fear. Having already created specific plans to help build healthier communities over the next five years, our ministry pledges to continue to work for equality in every aspect of society, including health care.

Please join us in praying that each of us will gain a new understanding of the bitter reality of racial inequality in our society...and that while we walk this difficult road together, there will be peace and safety for all.
