I have contemplated making this post and decided it is necessary to advocate and to educate. I will advocate for those who battle addiction and I will be their voice. I will educate those who have been fortunate enough to not have addiction impact their life in any form. I am offering Suboxone therapy at my office. For those who don’t know the process of achieving and maintaining sobriety I will provide some education. People face addiction to opioids and I can guarantee you it is not a goal that they set for themselves, they didn’t wake up one day and decide becoming an addict sounds fun. First they acknowledge and accept that they have a problem. Then they make the decision to get clean. Withdrawal is ugly. It strips people of their dignity (they don’t need judgment from those who are uneducated). Generally speaking the first line of treatment is methadone and the program is intense and highly regulated. Once a person is stable on methadone and ready to move forward with their sobriety, suboxone becomes an option. The majority of suboxone patients have been sober for awhile and they are trying to better their lives. They are people just like you and me. They have families and careers. Some are medical professionals, some are tradesmen, hairdressers, nail techs, students, etc. They have made mistakes and bad choices, just like the rest of us. They will relive their pasts and mistakes over and over in their own heads, NOBODY needs to remind them of what they have or have not done. So yes, I offer suboxone treatment to PEOPLE, who are treated like PEOPLE. Judgement free zone, a safe space. Perhaps my suboxone patients should be afraid of the judgy judies and not the other way around! Ignorance is not an excuse to be an as***le. I said what I said 🤷🏼‍♀️
