Hello and welcome to Unwind - Body & Mind.
Ok Simon Sinek, I’ll start with WHY....
Because I hope to change the world around me in my circle of influence, so that future generations have a better life. The whole concept of Unwind was a full-scale vision, including showing people how to replenish the soil and create sustainability with things we’d otherwise throw away into landfills. I spent time on Hawaii learning about bees, which I normally tend without protective gear, to share their message of love with others because they don’t need us - but WE NEED THEM. I want to teach children to love our bees and insects and the small things in life because it’s all perspective and each living creature has a sense of “I am.” But most humans have lost that concept and no longer respect the world we live in. The concept of “replenishing the earth” so that it can provide for the future is foreign to us and our instant gratification lifestyle.
“Unsustainable.” This is a word that, if you know me, you hear me talk about this all the time. It means we can’t keep on the same path without change, lest it will be unsustainable (think of the housing bubble in Cali and AZ.) But when we all think there’s nothing we can do about a thing, or it’s not my job creeps in, or the fact that we just don’t understand the impact we are making with our complacency, we get further and further into the abyss. I wanted to be a leader, a teacher, an inspiration to follow - because I have spent a lifetime acquiring skills to move people into sustainability, little by little, neighborhood by neighborhood, school by school, community by community... Because we all have to do our part, even though this American society would lead you to believe you don’t.
I have cried later in life after remembering how my grandpa would be so excited to tell me how you didn’t need the new mouthwash, that peroxide or baking soda cleaned your teeth really well and I’d say “Grandpa... don’t you know they’ve come out with other stuff for that now?” (Yeah, filled with fluoride and chemicals - great...) I really thought bigger, better, faster, more for the first say 35 years of my life and then I started to realize just how damaged I was, but I digress.
The children of the world are hungry... not for food, but for knowledge, for a WAY to heal the world, to MAKE that difference - BECAUSE THEY SEE. They see that we have destroyed it and they are the ones to inherit it and they see that STUFF isn’t the answer but that changing and choosing a new path, a path to SUSTAIN-ability will.
Dreams of mine have been to create community gardens in place of a concrete slab left from torn down houses - where a lot of people, especially children, don’t have the means to healthy food - and EDUCATING people about the importance of how you really are what you eat. What you take in, in general, is what you give out, so always think GIGO - GARBAGE IN - GARBAGE OUT, and that goes for everything, not just food... thoughts, information, attitudes.
HOW...
I have drafted full, sustainable plans for the down-and-out to turn their lives around WHILE concentrating on the WHY above. Thankfully all my hobbies - bees, plants and mushrooms go along with this plan and once I get up and going with some stability, I can go out and happily do this in the community. For the time-being however, I struggle as everyone else does in growing my primary business, Unwind, to remain a member of society. What helps is that I am passionate about this as well.
We’ve all seen the down-slide of our nation’s health coinciding with the questionable things we put into our bodies. From food our great-grandparents wouldn’t even consider food, to the over-indulgences we take in every single day in drink, drug, unhealthy food, body and mind. And some of us even play like we don’t realize it and are stunned when, after a lifetime of abusing the most incredible machine known to us, we respect and take better care of our cars than our bodies. Maybe because we didn’t pay for them.
My stance is that there is a time and place for Western medicine, for instance my right arm would be hamburger, had it not been for an amazing surgeon that put humpty dumpty back together again. But to think that we, as a society should be on a certain drug cocktail for the rest of our lives is ludicrous. We used to know the common plants that healed - we used to have to heal ourselves before the conveniences of modern society took charge and demanded we toss nature (as free as growing it in our own back yards) to the side in favor of something (made from nature) that had to be changed in order to sell it and make money off of it. Funny, right? No, more like crazy.
WHAT...
In my current line of work, I am a body-worker, an energy healer, a teacher again, and a reader of my client’s body and energy. I am... NOT MASSAGE, sorry. Everything I do is clothed and I really have no desire to do a typical massage. Not because it doesn’t feel good... but because if I go against where my hands need to be - the sensation is so strong that I’m not doing what the body needs... and it takes too long to dress and undress and drape, etc. I have been formally educated in Reiki, Clinical Massage Therapy, and then a whole slew of advanced techniques from the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts.
What I’m usually drawn to most, however, is Thai massage, Polarity Therapy and Craniosacral Unwinding. Thai is amazing, falls into the deep pressure category, and feels like someone’s draining the stress from your body. Polarity Therapy, which works with the electrical currents of the body and opens blockages in the body that many times, are tied to the emotional traumas of our lives. Cranio is another energy modality where I tune into the client’s system and “Unwind” the body, and again, the traumas trapped in our body and any part of the body can be unwound, often times elevating the pain relating to the trauma. Although a session is the perfect time to speak about an issue, it isn’t necessary.
My goal in this work is to open the body to allow the energy, blood, lymph - all the systems to run more freely. Because if a stream is dammed up, over time, everything down-stream will eventually die from mal-nutrition and drought, and your body physical and emotional, is no different. In my work, the physical body mirrors the emotional body, so look at what it’s telling you. And if you don’t know - come have a session and I may be able to help. Sometimes it’s screaming silently.
Every session, every person is different in their treatment, I bounce around and I’m typically drawn to parts of the body that have old traumas. If you have anxiety, you may feel like you come back into balance with a feeling of something being lifted.
Most services are now listed here on FB and I’m by appointment only unless my sign for walk-in’s is sitting outside. Sometimes I’d just suggest the inexpensive Pain Eraser salve I make and that’s all it takes...
As I continue on my own journey, my path and my processes change as yours will.
But YOUR JOURNEY starts with your first appointment. Text (only) your name, how you found my message, and your pain point to 219.973.1728 and I’ll be very happy to return your call and talk about what the best approach may be for what you have going on. Make the change today!
