Another example of fake before and after plastic surgery results. As patients you have to be aware and suspicious of such dramatic transformations. This patient underwent a rhinoplasty. In fact the rhinoplasty results are highly questionable for a male nose with very asymmetric pinching of the nostrils. But more importantly the entire face looks dramatically better. The surgeon is claiming that he took this patient from a 4 to a 9 with plastic surgery (nosejob). To the unsuspecting viewer this surgeon looks like a miracle worker. A magician. But the magic trick is simply due to photography and physics of lenses. First photo or the before is taken using a lens effect that creates dramatic distortion. He did not look anything like that before photo. It’s all due to fisheye lens distortion. The after is taken with a totally different lens distance and size. Look at his jaw, skull, ears and you will see how different they look. Rhinoplasty does not change jaw, skull, ears. The same fisheye lens in the before made his nose look much bigger and wider. This is dishonest and unethical. Filters are one way of creating false results. Camera lens tricks like this is the other method. Patients send us pictures like this asking if we can give them such results because they have been tricked. These are not actual results.

After 20+ years of operating and seeing patients, the thing we notice is that there are more patients with unrealistic goals and expectations than ever before. Why? Perhaps it’s posts like this online. This is a before and after photo by a very good and respected surgeon. He does outstanding work. But this is not real. It’s not reality. It’s not actual results. Why? Because he is doing something very commonly seen today: surgeons posting the absolute worse possible before photo taken at a very close angle which creates significant optic distortion making the face more round/oval and making the nose much much wider and bigger. Lighting is very harsh and no makeup. Then the after is at a much better camera angle with heavy filters. Filters are lies. Filters are not reality. Filters make people look like cartoon characters removing all wrinkles and lines and adding more definition to the nose. Filters are much more powerful than even photoshop or airbrushing. Do you want your plastic surgeon to post airbrushed photoshopped “after” photos? That is false advertising. Now we all have patients who email us their after selfies and often they have a filter but we try our best to show several photos making sure we are showing actual results and not just showing off their filtered fantasy photo. These type of “results” on esteemed plastic surgeon’s social media sites creates false expectations and makes patients believe such “results” are possible. This is not possible. This did not occur. This is fantasy not reality. We have patients who end up with amazing new noses but then compare their actual results to these types of falsehoods and think perhaps they need a revision. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Early rhinoplasty results by Dr. Shervin Naderi, Double Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and Rhinoplasty Specialist. 👃

Skin thickness plays a huge role in your Rhinoplasty journey. Patients with thicker skin often require more time and patience to see that definition and shape compared to those with thinner skin. But with proper taping and post op care, the results are well worth the wait. 👏

With thick skin, maintaining or even adding projection to the tip of the nose is extremely important and it’s a concept that many plastic surgeons do not comprehend well. It’s also a concept that needs to be accepted by the patient with thicker skin, because de-projection of the tip with thicker skin would end up with a very thick, undefined nose. 👎

She is still in the beginning stages of healing (about 6 months out) and the nose will continue to settle and define itself over time. She has been taping her nose to help keep scar tissue and swelling at a minimum. Many patients start enjoying their nose as soon as 2-4 weeks post surgery and look forward to it getting even better with time. 🙌
