                                        **Masseuse vs. Massage Therapist**
The primary distinction between a masseuse and a massage therapist lies in their training, certification, and professionalism.
**Massage Therapist:**
A licensed professional trained for hundreds of hours in massage techniques, anatomy, and physiology. We adhere to regulated standards and prioritize safe, ethical care. Massage therapists can work in various environments, including spas and medical centers, addressing health concerns through methods such as deep tissue massage and myofascial release. The term "massage therapist" is gender-neutral and applies to all trained practitioners.
Historically, "masseuse" referred to female massage therapists, while "masseur" was used for males. However, since the 1980s, "masseuse" has fallen out of favor in the industry due to its association with s*x work, making many practitioners uncomfortable.
Please do your best to make the conscientious choice to use the proper terminology. β£οΈ
