Hey, everyone! I thought I would update this page since it’s been a while. This summer has been very busy. I’ve been teaching some amazing little and not-so-little humans, working on additional training (always learning 🩷) and spending time with my own small human. Instead of social media, I’ve been spending more time outdoors and discovering plants and animals that are entirely new to me. I’ll invite you to make time for a walk outside this week to just notice nature- however it presents itself. I appreciate your continued support of Lion’s Breath Yoga. Enjoy this picture from a hike near Red River Gorge.

Such a fun time! I love the community we have here. ❤️

More pics from my week at as the guest yoga instructor with . It was so lovely to practice with students from all around the globe. (I may have even gotten to do “pizza yoga” when some kiddos showed up for class one day 🤭) The E-team and staff here are some of the sweetest humans. ❤️ We will be back!

In a time of hate
Love is an act of resistance.
In a time of fear
Faith is an act of resistance.
In a time of misinformation
Education is an act of resistance.
In a time of poor leadership
Community is an act of resistance.

In a time like this
Joy is an act of resistance.
Resist. Resist. Resist.

It’s the middle of winter and where I am in Ohio, it is quite cold outside these days. For the past week the sky has maintained a misty, dark gray cover with low clouds hovering like a scowl over this small part of the world and its inhabitants. This season can be bleak for many of us as we crave the sunshine with its warming rays and boost of vitamin D.

If you are feeling disconnected from others and a bit blue on these extra blustery days, know that you are not alone. I also have a challenge for you. Each day this week- see if you can find one small action you can take to improve someone’s day. A kind word, a helping hand, a smile, a handmade gift. Studies suggest that performing small acts of kindness can improve mental health and increase feelings of social connection.

This week in yoga my elementary students practiced bhramari pranayama (bee breath). We noticed how using the flow of our own breath’s speed we were able to hold space for others while humming on our exhales followed by the feeling of being supported as we paused for air on our inhales. At the end of class we made notes of encouragement to give others an uplifting message in this cold, sometimes dreary season. Which is, like everything, simply just a season.

❤️ Peace

When you want to sirsasana (headstand) and there’s 6 inches of snow. ❄️ 😂 It’s good to be back in Ohio after school break. ❤️

Did you know that you can do a walking meditation that’s extra special in the snow? It’s a great way to reset your body and mind after spending most of the day warm inside during these cold winter months.

Start by inhaling through your nose as you take slow steps and count from 1 to 4 for each step you take, then hold for 4 steps, exhale through the nose for 4 steps, hold for 4 steps. Repeat. Example:

Inhale…step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4
Hold… step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4
Exhale… step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4
Hold… step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4
Repeat

You can walk with this box breathing pattern or if it’s uncomfortable just breathe naturally. Either way, try focusing on the crunch of the snow beneath your feet, the sound of your breath and the sensation of air flowing through your nose.

Peace. ❄️

We began our Halloween yoga class with an asana practice set to spooky music and ended with a mandala making/candle gazing meditation during which my teens chose a figurative “ghost” in their lives to release into the winds of change that the season of fall brings us.

Credit to GROW Movement and Mindfulness for the mandala inspiration and to Emily Calandrelli for the ghost tea bag experiment.
