We lost a great lady this week. Charlene Wilson was a co-worker, a friend, and more importantly, like family. She had been with the pharmacy since I bought it in 2009. She retired last year, begrudgingly, because of some health issues. She worked through heartache and pain and would never sit down. She always wanted to stay busy. She loved working in the public and serving her community. If you needed a volunteer or someone to get a project moving, she was your gal. Gena and I have know Charlene since we were little girls growing up in our mother’s pharmacy in Sayre when she worked as an assistant manager at United Supermarket in Sayre. Our families have known each other for a long time. She watched our kids grow up and treated them like honorary grandchildren. We have gone through so much heartbreak and joy together, we’ve celebrated achievements, and cried with each other. She was one of the most generous humans I’ve ever met. She would give you the shirt off her back, her last scrap of food, and her last penny if you needed it. She is truly a selfless, loving, god-fearing woman. She is now pain free, drinking as much Nesquick, and eating as many chocolate ice cream bars as she wants now. I’m thankful I had her in my life as long as I did. She will be greatly missed.
