CRMC Earns National Trauma Center Verification

We’re proud to share that Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has officially been verified as a Level III Trauma Center with neurosurgical capabilities by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT).

This prestigious recognition reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to providing the highest standard of trauma care to our community.

“Caring for trauma patients means being there on someone’s hardest day and doing everything possible to help them heal,” said Jennifer Dykshorn, CRMC Trauma Program Manager. “Our team is always learning, growing and finding new ways to keep our community safe.”

ACS trauma center verification is not a designation, it’s a rigorous evaluation of a hospital’s people, processes, policies, and patient outcomes. It confirms that:

Be sure your MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccination is current — especially before attending large gatherings, traveling overseas or to areas with high infection rates or returning to school.

KIDS need two doses for full protection.
ADULTS may need a booster depending on age or travel plans.

Sam Bass, DNP, RN, NE-BC, and Magnet program director, said he is proud to celebrate the organization’s Magnet redesignation. This recognition is a powerful testament to the dedication and excellence of Cheyenne Regional’s nursing staff.

Sam shared:
“Magnet redesignation is more than just an award or badge of honor. It is steadfast proof of a hard-earned commitment to excellence in health care.

Over the past five years, our nurses and our organization have persevered through a global pandemic, all while maintaining lower-than-average turnover rates, exceeding national quality benchmarks and continuously improving the patient experience.

In that time, our nurses have conducted research, delivered poster presentations, published evidence-based practices, applied for grants to enhance patient care, participated in performance improvement initiatives, advanced their education and sat for certification exams. They have also advocated for their patients at the Wyoming Legislature and collaborated with the Wyoming State Board of Nursing to update the nursing scope of practice.

We are a small, community-based hospital, and the standards for Magnet are the same for us as they are for large academic medical centers. That makes this accomplishment even more meaningful.

We should all be proud of the work we do every day to care for our patients, support one another and strengthen our community.”
