Is the US finally getting a long-awaited sunscreen upgrade? The FDA is proposing a new UV filter called bemotrizinol, something that has been used in Europe, Australia and parts of Asia for years. Because sunscreen is regulated as an over the counter drug in the US, the path to approval can be slower and more complex than in places where it is treated more like a cosmetic.

Bemotrizinol is a broad-spectrum ingredient, meaning it can help protect against both UVA and UVB, two components of sunlight that are linked to skin damage over time. If approved, it could expand our sunscreen options and potentially make daily protection more effective in real-world use.

Sun, water, wind, and reflection all increase UV exposure, but that does not mean you have to stop enjoying the outdoors. Smart, layered sun protection lets you stay active while protecting your skin.

When skin cancer treatment meets a major life event like a wedding, thoughtful planning can make a meaningful difference. For this patient, addressing two skin cancers on the center of her face meant balancing health, function, and aesthetics with great care.

In cases like this, our priorities often include preserving nasal function, maintaining as much symmetry as possible, and supporting a smooth, even skin texture as healing progresses. After surgery, we used vascular and CO2 laser treatments as a finishing step to refine redness and texture, which can be a helpful option for some patients on their recovery journey.

Acne isn’t always caused by just one thing. Oil, clogged pores, and bacteria all play a role. That’s why ingredients like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid are commonly used to help keep pores clear and reduce breakouts.

But skincare is often about balance. In some cases, such as this one that we recently saw online, combining exfoliating acids with proper hydration may help prevent irritation while still treating acne.

Swipe through to learn how this combination might work for some people.

Most people have tried to pop a pimple at home at least once! Popping pimples the wrong way, however, can actually make the pimple worse.

Dermatologists are careful when treating cysts and pimples because the wrong tools or poor hygiene can introduce more bacteria into the skin. That's why what seems like a simple squeeze can sometimes turn into a bigger infection.
