The next few weeks are to take some time for myself, do things I enjoy, and recover from some of the burnout of graduate school. Studying for my NBCOT boards exam can wait until June!

What is your favorite burnout-relief, self-care activity or tip? And I don’t mean “take a bath”, “go for a walk”, or “drink water” type advice. Tell me something a little out of the box!

What an incredible Women’s History Month guest speaker, Amber English founder of Pixie Cup! 🩸They develop and sell menstruation products such as menstrual cups, menstrual disks, and more! Their mission is exactly up my alley: Empower others, give back, and live free.

Amber’s story is incredible (seriously, go check out pixiecup.shop!). You can easily see the passion for her work when she talk about her company and the work she does.

Pixie cup has a buy one give one program to help educate and end period poverty! They have distributed over 242,000 pixie cups in the United States and around the globe in places like Kenya and Tanzania!!

As an advocate for women’s health, reproductive health, and menstruation support, learning more about the business side of menstrual products and distribution of those products is invaluable for me as a future healthcare practitioner. Pixie also has products to support pain management and pelvic floor/bladder control! I’m looking at you pelvic floor therapists 👀 (many of which are OTs just like me!).

I love being part of (class of 2020 and current division of social sciences intern). Opportunities to have a small group conversation with incredible human beings, ESPECIALLY women, are just not possible outside of environments like McK. Dr. Shelly Lemons is another incredible woman who works so hard to bring opportunities like this to the students and general community of McKendree. This entire campus worked together to get Amber to come to campus and speak in small groups with students and a larger open lecture on her business.

More HERstory, please!!

It’s been difficult to stay focused and on top of my weekly goals with the flu zapping my energy and the brain fog that came with this virus… add on some snow days… add traveling for the ILOTA Student Conclave… it has been A LOT of moving parts and adapting to changes.
