Residents Beware: the mayor is currently attempting to gain support to impose a new tax on groceries to help fund his wasteful spending. This plan targets families like those on the Southwest Side.

Working families statistically spend a larger portion of their income on groceries, meaning this plan unfairly targets communities like our’s. Businesses like those in the 23rd Ward could feel the brunt of the plan as residents will travel to the suburbs to stock up on essentials. It also forces shoppers to buy cheaper, less healthy options for food to try to make savings. This measure is further proof the mayor does not care about small businesses, public health, or working families. We’re all a worthy sacrifice to him to keep his bloated bureaucracy afloat.
