Today, we'd like to highlight a current student of Feinberg of whom we are particularly proud!

Ramzy Issa is a Palestinian second-year MD/MPH candidate at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Ramzy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwestern University with a double major in Neuroscience and Global Health, which was made possible through a full-tuition scholarship from the Posse Foundation. He was accepted into the Feinberg School of Medicine through the Northwestern Undergraduate Pre-Medical Scholars Program (NUPSP), which provided him early acceptance into Feinberg with MCAT exemption.

Ramzy was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, but his family originates from Palestine. He is the first in his family to attend medical school and hopes to represent and serve Middle Eastern North African (MENA) individuals, an often-overlooked minority group. He hopes to amplify MENA voices, perform research on the health needs of MENA individuals, and serve his community through shared culture and language.

Ramzy has noticed a lack of representation of MENA physicians, making it difficult to find mentors with shared backgrounds. This motivates him to work hard, aiming to increase MENA visibility in medicine and support future MENA students entering the field.

Keep up the amazing work, Ramzy!

Congratulations to Dr. McKnight one of our distinguished alumni.

When you walk through Northwestern Medicine Prentice Women’s Hospital, you will now see a portrait of Tacoma McKnight, MD, hanging proudly.

Dr. McKnight was one of the first Black female OB-GYN residents at Prentice Women’s Hospital and the first Black female faculty member at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She helped pave the way for other Black female physicians throughout her career in medicine.

Now retired from her clinical work, Dr. McKnight has transitioned to emeritus status at the university. Her work continues — and will never be forgotten.
