City Pads would like to thank local artist Joe Miller, Uptown Chamber of Commerce, and all those who took part in the second annual Uptown Art Week. We were lucky enough to donate The Wilson Club, located at 1124 W. Wilson Avenue, as part of the weekly festivities this year.

The mural (titled “Uptown Dot King”) stretches most of the East elevation and is in clear view for all passengers riding the Red Line through Wilson Avenue. The work features vibrant spirals revolving along an all-black backdrop.

Joe is Chicago born-and-raised and achieved his lifelong dream of having artwork you could see from the L. Uptown Dot King will be a staple in the neighborhood for decades to come.

City Pads is reeling with excitement as we near selection day for the C40 Reinventing Cities Competition. We would like to thank our partners for the incrediable amount of hard work that has gone into this project over the past year.

Our proposal features a 21-story, 200+ unit development featuring carbon neutral design and sustainable construction materials. The building is designed to give central business district workers and artists a place to live, work, and create.

We are so humbled to be selected as finalists for the International C40 Reinventing Cities Competition, along side our development partners for the project DL3, the architects at Perkins and Will and everyone else in the massive and talented team we've assembled for this project. The ecoVIBE at Pritzker Park has been the culmination of countless hours of over the past year, in a time where we couldn't meet in person. It's truly astonishing to see the final submission with all the hurdles we've faced. We believe this project is so important to the future of our planet and our community, a carbon neutral building with affordable workforce housing and low income housing focused on giving artists a home, a like minded community to collaborate with and a platform to create and share their artistic vision. I applaud our team for the vision, dedication and talent to pull off such a fantastic entry into the C40 competition. Hats off to our fellow competitors, we know too well how much work you've dedicated to this project. We are hopeful that we will win and see this beautiful design and concept come to fruition, congrats team and all the finalists for the amazing job you've all done 👏👏👏

Emmy also sat down with our property manager, Common, for a spotlight interview. She provided some encouraging words for up-and-coming artists, as well as her take on the murals:

“These murals were designed to work cohesively throughout the first floor, with each also designed as interpretative and independent statement pieces. The paintings were inspired by the seasons of the midwest. I had a lot of fun choosing this unique color palette that is made up of neutrals, cool blues/greens and unexpected pops of lavender and yellow. I especially like the layering of brights and neutrals. It visually pops! The process began with collecting inspiration, which often leads with nature.”

We have been working very hard on our first deal in Evanston, IL and are proud to announce that our plan for mixed-use development was UNAMIOUSLY approved by the Plan Commission. The five-story, 120-unit apartment building will be positioned at 718 Main Street, formerly the Vogue Fabrics store. We plan to bring affordable housing to the area while maintaining our signature class-A finishes. We cannot be more excited to progress towards final approval of this project!!
