I attended pharmacy school in 1996 at the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. Although I was a newlywed at the time, I wanted something more for my life than to rely on the wings of my husband. My parent had made the very difficult journey to immigrate to the US when I was 3 years old with my 3 siblings, because they wanted a better life for their children; and they knew this would be possible in America. Four decades later, I am living the American dream! Through the hard work my parents taught me, consistency in taking daily action, and faith in God, I seized the opportunities available in the US for a higher education and freedom to create the life of my dreams. I encourage you to go after what you want despite naysayers and that little voice in your head that says you can't. Anything is possible!! I am a living example. 💜💜

Dr. Chris Baek, PharmD '00, and her daughter, Allison Baek, have made history by becoming the first mother-daughter duo to compete and win the titles of Mrs. Illinois America and Miss Illinois for America together!
