Y’all know I am super super Mexicana pero claro que valoro toda la diversidad latina de las familias que vienen a verme cada semana 🤩🥰

Indigenous people have always been here and will continue to always be here. Natives are not simply a part of our country’s early history as it has been documented in our history books but they continue to live around us every day in our schools, workplaces, and communities. Today we celebrate this group’s continued survival and resistance. Land acknowledgement: The Palabras office on Ravenswood Ave in Chicago sits on top of Ho- Chunk land.

Cuando tu terapeuta es latina como tú, puedes sentirte en libertad para hablar de tu hijo/a usando las palabras de TU idioma con la confianza de que tu terapeuta te va a entender! Again, not bashing on non- Latina SLP’s who learned Spanish in an academic or professional setting 🙂‍↔️ Pero a veces uno necesita decir las cosas a SU manera como se dice en su país! And guess what? Your Latina SLP will just ✨ get it ✨

To leave it ABUNDANTLY clear: Palabras wants ICE and their reign of terror out of Chicago and Palabras actively wishes the worst for all ICE agents. I encourage all individuals in Chicago to unite against ICE raids in whatever way they can and I encourage businesses to take practical measures in supporting their families and clientele. This is how I, as a speech therapist in private practice, am supporting my families and resisting against fascist, ultra- right leaders that harm my families. Enough talk- let’s act and show the receipts. How do you do YOUR part?

Animo a todos los habitantes de Chicago a unirse contra las redadas de ICE de cualquier manera posible y animo a los negocios a tomar medidas prácticas para apoyar a sus familias y clientes. Así es como yo, como terapeuta en consulta privada, apoyo a mis familias y me opongo a los líderes fascistas y de ultraderecha que las perjudican. Cuando tu terapeuta es latina como tú, puedes sentirte en libertad para hablar de tu hijo/a usando las palabras de TU idioma con la confianza de que tu terapeuta te va a entender! And this isn’t a post to bash on non- Latina SLP’s who learned Spanish in a more professional or academic setting 🙂‍↔️ But sometimes when your SLP is a heritage Spanish speaker, you’re just able to say things using words in YOUR dialect and your SLP ✨gets it✨.
