Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety We are an Occupational Health and Safety Education and Research Center, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

We recently changed our name to the Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety (GLC-OHS). The Division of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS) is one of four academic units in the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety (GLC-OHS) is an Occupational Health and Safety Education & Research Center, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health. The GLC-OHS is house within the Division of EOHS. The Illinois ERC trains graduate level students in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, occupational medicine, occupational and environmental epidemiology, and agricultural safety and health. We also provide continuing education to health and safety professionals and community members. Look for our Interdisciplinary Seminar sessions here on Facebook or by enrolling into the GLC Listserv by emailing Jordan Hepler at jheple2@uic.edu. Seminars are often eligible for continuing education units (CEUs) and are free to attend or participate online!

Hosting a Thanksgiving gathering? Follow these steps to make it safer:
• Improve ventilation by choosing outdoor spaces or opening windows and doors as weather permits.
• Space seating at least 6 feet apart for people who are not part of the same household.
• Limit the number of guests.
• Have conversations ahead of time to set expectations.

We stand with workers fighting for their health and safety and right to organize!

Working people know that no matter who we are or where we come from when we support each other we win powerful change.

Recently, , the world’s most profitable candy-corporation fired employees for speaking out about dangerous working conditions & lack of hazard pay during the pandemic. Our Story

With more than 40 years of service, the Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety (formerly the Illinois ERC) is a recognized leader in the national and international movement to promote healthier workplaces and workers. The center provides masters and doctoral training in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, occupational and environmental epidemiology, agricultural health and safety, and occupational medicine. The GLC-OHS is in the Division of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. It is one of eighteen Occupational Health and Safety Education & Research Centers, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health.
