WEEK 3 — “A New Chapter With My Wife”

In 2015, my wife said she wanted to return to school, and I told her, “Let’s do it together.”
We enrolled that summer as nursing majors, ready to start fresh and build new careers side by side.
But the road had other plans.
She found her calling in Respiratory Therapy…and the path that had whispered to me years before came back full circle.
I found myself walking straight toward Mortuary Science—not away from it.

WEEK 2 — “Loss Changed Everything”

Life has a way of shaping us in ways we never expect.
In 2006, I experienced the unthinkable—burying my son after a brain aneurysm.
Then in 2013, we lost another son to a heart defect.
Sitting on the other side of the arrangement table, grieving and overwhelmed, taught me just how heavy funeral decisions can be—emotionally, mentally, and financially.
Those moments became part of my calling, even before I realized it.

WEEK 1 — “Where It All Started”

When I was 20 years old, I walked into a career fair at Malcolm X College with one mission: explore a path in EMS or firefighting—just like my father encouraged.
I visited a few tables, but one stopped me in my tracks: Mortuary Science.
A student told me the program was tough… and at that age, that was all I needed to hear to run the other way. So off I went into the EMT/Firefighter direction—never knowing life would bring me right back to that moment years later.
Sometimes purpose whispers early, even when we don’t recognize it.
