You just need to know who and how to ask. Discussing preferences ahead of time at a prenatal appt and writing them down for the birth day can help a lot.

If your medical team is nervous about it, ask if once the shoulders deliver, could you take over catching your baby or do it together with them.

As we move though International Doula Month, we want to share some of the outcomes that doulas help create. According to Evidence Based Birth®, having continuous support in labor leads to:

A 25% decrease in the risk of Cesarean
An 8% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
A 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief
A Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average
A 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score
A 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

If you had a doula during birth, how did their support impact you?
