✨We all know how challenging it can be when our little ones experience meltdowns. Here are some tips on how to handle them:

🔴Stay calm: It's important to remain calm during a meltdown. Remember that your child is struggling and acting out due to their ADHD. Take deep breaths and stay composed to help your child feel more secure.

🟠Create a safe space: Designate a safe and quiet space in your home where your child can go to calm down during a meltdown. Stock it with comforting items like a soft blanket, a favorite toy, or some calming sensory tools.

🟡Practice sensory regulation: Sensory regulation techniques can help your child manage their emotions during a meltdown. This can include deep breathing, squeezing a stress ball, or using a fidget spinner.

🟢Provide clear instructions: Keep your instructions simple and clear during a meltdown. Use a calm and soothing tone of voice. Avoid lengthy explanations or lectures, as it may overwhelm your child further.

🔵Offer reassurance and empathy: Let your child know that you understand their feelings and that it's okay to feel upset. Offer reassurance and comfort by saying things like "It's okay to be frustrated, we'll get through this together" or "I understand that you're upset, let's figure out how to make it better."

🟣Use distraction techniques: Redirect your child's attention to something else during a meltdown. This can be a favorite toy, a funny video, or a calming activity like drawing or coloring.

⚪️Follow a consistent routine: Establishing a consistent routine can help prevent meltdowns in children with ADHD.

✨Remember, meltdowns are a normal part of managing ADHD, and it's important to approach them with patience, understanding, and empathy. We're all in this together, and we're here to support each other. Hang in there, fellow parents!"

✨ADHD & ANGER – THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO

One of the primary symptoms of ADHD is impulsivity which inhibits the ability to concentrate or control behaviors; in other words, self-regulate. This means that kids with ADHD act on their feelings immediately! Things like anger and frustration are expressed straight away.

This is called impulsive aggression and is common among children with ADHD as it causes unplanned emotion or aggression in stressful situations. ADHD doesn’t take emotions away; instead, it tends to magnify them disproportionately.

✨What are some of the ways you help your child express their frustrations in a healthy way?✨

✨ Positive self-esteem is crucial to every child's development, whether they have ADHD or not. It sets the scene for their social, emotional, and behavioral health and impacts how they deal with things like peer pressure, disappointment, and life's challenges.
Positive strategies that help build self-esteem include:
• Unconditional love and quality time
Unconditional love seems like a given when it is your child, especially since we do it without even thinking about it, but physical expressions of love such as hugs, reading with them, cuddling, and giving positive affirmations throughout the day offer a great way to boost their self-esteem.

• Responsibility and independence
Some simple chores and encouraging independence are vital for self-esteem; it shows them that you believe in their abilities.

• Showcase their creativity
Display their art on the fridge and let them discuss what they created with the whole family, like a little art show.

Do you have any fun things you do to help build your child's self-esteem? We would love to hear it!
