The music for this year’s gala was chosen with someone very special in mind: our residents. 🎶

By popular demand, the evening will feature the joyful sounds of M’Chaiya, a beloved klezmer band known for bringing energy, tradition, and celebration to every performance.

We can’t wait to share an evening of music, dancing, and community with you on Sunday, April 26th.

It's an honor to host the Selfhelp Gala once again at a venue deeply connected to Chicago’s Jewish community: Venue SIX10 at the Spertus Institute.

With its beautiful space overlooking Lake Michigan and its long-standing role in Jewish education and culture, it's the perfect setting to celebrate our story.

85 seats filled, stories shared, traditions honored ✨

Our first night Seder at The Selfhelp Home brought together 85 residents, families, and friends for an evening rooted in reflection, connection, and joy. From the retelling of the Passover story to the familiar songs and rituals, it was a beautiful reminder of the strength and spirit of our community.

Earlier this winter, our residents enjoyed a beautiful cultural outing to the Art Institute of Chicago — and we’re still smiling thinking about it.

From iconic masterpieces to thoughtful conversations sparked in the galleries, it was a day filled with creativity, connection, and inspiration. There’s something powerful about experiencing art together — sharing memories, perspectives, and favorite pieces along the way.

Outings like these are such an important part of life at Selfhelp Home, keeping us engaged with the vibrant cultural community right here in Chicago.

More art, more outings, more moments together. 💙

The moments that shaped us.

Preserving these photographs is just one part of our commitment to honoring those who paved the way. As we work toward creating a historical gallery within Selfhelp, these images will help tell the story of a community built on dignity, tradition, and care.

Some people just embody the spirit of Selfhelp.

Jessica Katz is one of those people. As our Director of Resident Services and Community Outreach, Jessica brings honesty, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to every interaction.

From guiding families through difficult transitions with empathy, to building meaningful partnerships throughout the Jewish and broader community, Jessica strengthens the heart of Selfhelp each day.

Her commitment to person-centered care — and her belief that residents should feel safe, comfortable, and supported — makes her an extraordinary asset to our team and our community.

As we welcome the first official day of spring, we’re reminiscing about a beautiful outing our residents enjoyed back in February at the Orchid Show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. 🌺✨

Even on a winter day, the vibrant blooms and lush greenery gave us a little preview of the season ahead. From breathtaking orchid displays to peaceful strolls through the conservatory, it was a wonderful afternoon filled with color, conversation, and connection.

Moments like these remind us that spring is always closer than we think. 🌿💛

Here’s to longer days, fresh starts, and many more outings together!
