As a pelvic health specialist, we welcome her collaborations to patient care, celebrate her enthusiastic brain, and support her passion in community care.

Should we restart Balance Class?!

5-6 people per class, different textured surfaces, balance beams, eye exercises, beach balls, kaleidoscope glasses, laser pointers, and a whole pile of fun. Oh, and of course, you walk away with transferable skills to improve safety on snow/ ice, tripping on uneven sidewalks, navigating pot holes, dodging scooters and cyclists, and eventually more fun and happy things like sand and beach terrain.

"How well are you aging? It might come down to balance.

A Mayo Clinic study found that the length of time someone can stand on one leg is a stronger indicator of healthy aging than muscle strength or walking speed. Balance declined faster with age than other physical measures, highlighting its importance for fall prevention and overall health."

How it started... 6 years ago, in Hyde Park, Chicago...

Sometimes phone memories stop me in my tracks: One stark white room. One clinician. Hauling the 3 things I own to "clinic". A quiet dream to help someone, just one someone.

And, here we are.

Happy National Physical Therapy month!

This post is a funny one to write... This is my mentor Dr Mary J. Rogel, PhD, LAc of East Point Associates

Dr Mary has been an acupuncturist for almost 40 years and I have been learning from her for almost 4 years now. She literally does the best orthopedic manual therapy I have ever seen in addition to unbelievable orthopedic needling; I have watched her achieve things on people's bodies in one session that shouldn't be possible.

I'm choosing to add her to our October celebrations because (1) we're now office roommates in our new space, (2) I vehemently believe in continuing education, and (3)... Controversial opinion warning!!!... I think in 50-100 years from now all of us "body" people are going to need to choose a common label for ourselves and stop the Turf Wars.

We've seen some really beautiful interdisciplinary results on shared patients so far and I'm excited to keep learning from you. After almost 4 years, I still can't believe I have the privilege of even looking inside your brain and I'm humbled by the volume of what continues to lie ahead of me.

For those of you that have been treated by Mary, you'll know her shoes can never be filled.

Happy National Physical Therapy month! We're thrilled to continue celebrating our incredible staff.

Dogtor Kala Mimee: Human Resources & Morale Manager

She takes her job(s) very seriously. Kala ushers patients out at the end of their sessions and new patients into their spots. With 4 private treatment rooms, she is busy ALL day long. During sessions, she checks on patients who make sounds of pain and, if she asks to leave the room to check on someone else, when she returns she apologizes for her absence. Every one of our staff takes our customer experience very seriously at Velona.

I didn't realize how many special things happen in October! Velona Health's Birthday last week AND today is Kala's Gotcha Day too!!!

Please tell her what a Good Girl she is next time you see her.
