When a house fire in Kane County displaced 21 people during dangerously cold conditions — with temperatures dropping to 15 degrees below zero — Red Cross volunteers knew the response would be especially urgent.

Working out of an emergency response vehicle, they made multiple trips to ensure every person impacted had warmth, safety and the help they needed to begin recovering.

Home fires are the disaster the Red Cross responds to most often, with volunteers helping families across Illinois every day.

As we close out March is Red Cross Month, we pause with deep gratitude for the volunteers and supporters who make our mission possible every single day.

We are especially grateful to have this month recognized across our region, with a proclamation from Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Secretary of State honoring the compassion and dedication of those who serve through the American Red Cross.

Across the region, Red Crossers show up in life’s most difficult moments, bringing comfort after home fires, supporting families in crisis, ensuring patients receive lifesaving blood, and standing beside our military members and veterans when it matters most.

You are the reason a family finds hope after loss. You are the reason someone is not alone on their worst day.

Your compassion, your commitment, and your willingness to serve reflect the very best of our communities, and we are deeply honored to stand alongside you.

Because of you, the Red Cross is there. ️ Thank you for being the heart of our mission.
