On Friday, the American Red Cross of Illinois was excited to celebrate a successful Summer Water Safety Program in collaboration with the Bloomington-Normal YMCA and the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal!

The month-long program, held July 1–31, combined pool time with classroom-based education using the Red Cross Longfellow’s WHALE Tales curriculum, teaching children essential skills to stay safe in and around water.

THANK YOU to all the volunteers and organizations who came together at The Center in Davenport Monday to help residents navigate the recovery process after flash flooding earlier this month!

"The Quad Cities is an amazing community," said Executive Director Trish Burnett. "When you ask people to come, when you say to agencies, this is the situation, they all come. That started a couple of years ago with the building collapse and it has just continued to be a strong partnership in this community."

Trish, who leads the Red Cross chapter of the Quad Cities & Northwest Illinois, is urging families to start planning now for future disasters in order to be prepared.

"Take the time to know what to do and make sure everybody in the household knows what to do," Trish said."So if you have to evacuate, or if you have to shelter at home, whatever happens, you have a plan and you know how to execute it quickly."
