The power of women united for impact! Members of the American Red Cross Tiffany Circle, a global community of women leaders advancing our mission, including those from the Illinois Region, recently came together for the Tiffany Circle Summit.

✨ Together, they pledged over $1.2 million to support recovery efforts for people impacted by disasters.

And that’s not all! Our regional Tiffany Circle is also the Signature Sponsor of the 2026 ABC7 Great Chicago Blood Drive, taking place on January 14–15 across multiple Chicagoland locations.

Kellie O’Connell, CEO of the American Red Cross of Illinois, shared:
“Attending my first Tiffany Circle Summit was both inspiring and humbling. To see so many women leaders with such generosity and passion for the Red Cross mission reminds me of the incredible impact we can make together.”

We are deeply grateful for their leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment.

Volunteer of the Week: Belle Htet of Chicago, Illinois

Belle’s journey with the Red Cross began about a year ago when she did a quick internet search for volunteering opportunities. “I was looking to do volunteer work, and the first thing on my search was the American Red Cross,” Belle said.

Belle has dedicated her free time to helping the Red Cross with events like Sound The Alarm. She recently joined a group of Red Cross volunteers in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago to install smoke alarms in dozens of homes. “We went to so many homes, and we were there for like 30 minutes to complete the smoke alarm installation process, and it’s incredible to think that those 30 minutes can save a life.”

For Belle, this project hits close to home since she lives in that area. “I got to know a lot of people who need help, and I am glad that I could be the one to help make their home safer, and it happened to be in my neighborhood, so that was special,” Belle said.

Her home country is Myanmar, but she is currently living in Chicago to complete her higher education. Belle is seeking a degree in Global Asian Studies; she believes her experience as a volunteer at the Red Cross will give her a broad understanding of the types of assistance that people may need in this part of the world, and maybe she can use that knowledge to better protect her community back home.

Belle has a passion for helping people and feels very proud to be a part of the amazing volunteer group at the Red Cross: “Volunteering for me is very meaningful because you can impact someone’s life; this is something that has a lot of value because it allows you to spread kindness.” Belle says that the hands-on experience she gets as a volunteer is also valuable because she can’t learn that from a book or a classroom setting.

We thank Belle for her commitment to the Red Cross mission!

Disasters are unpredictable. Many happen with little or no warning—often striking in the middle of the night or when families are away from home. Today, the Red Cross is responding to a major disaster nearly every two weeks. We can only answer those calls for help because of the generosity of our supporters.

This National Preparedness Month, we’re proud to recognize members of our Annual Disaster Giving Program and Disaster Responder Program. Their commitment to give before disasters strike ensures we’re ready to respond at a moment’s notice—bringing comfort, relief, and hope to those who need it most.

🚨 During National Preparedness Month in September, the American Red Cross is here to provide information on how to protect your loved ones in the event of unexpected natural disasters and other emergencies.

🏙️ The likelihood of certain emergencies varies with each town or region, so it's important to plan accordingly. You may need to have emergency kits if you need to stay at home or if you have to evacuate.

🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Assign a small task to each member of the family in case of emergencies. Involving every member in the plan will lighten the burden and keep everyone safe.

📝 Keep your plan in writing. Write down each member of the household's responsibilities in writing and practice.

Scrolling social media can feel heavy. Here's a gentle but important reminder to take care of yourself and your mental health.

• Be patient with yourself and others. It's okay to have temporary stress, anxiety, and feelings of frustration.
• It's okay to stay informed, but take breaks from the news and social media.
• Spend time with family and friends, and offer your support.

If you or someone you know needs mental health support, reach out to the free, 24/7 Disaster Distress Helpline by calling or texting 1-800-985-5990.
