Very excited to present at the Mental Health Beyond Borders: From Crisis to Connection conference, organized by the Mediterranean Region Counselors Association.
My presentation is Voices of Resilience: Advocacy and Mental Health Support for Immigrants (1.0 CE)
The presentation examines the critical intersection of immigration, mental health, and advocacy. We will explore the unique psychological challenges faced by immigrant populations, particularly undocumented individuals, due to factors such as displacement, acculturation stress, legal uncertainty, and systemic barriers to mental health care. It highlights evidence-based counseling strategies that promote resilience, including trauma-informed therapy, culturally responsive interventions, and community-based support systems. The presentation is highly relevant to counseling, as it underscores the need to integrate social justice and mental health care for marginalized populations. Counselors can develop more inclusive and equitable therapeutic practices by fostering awareness of the sociopolitical factors affecting immigrant well-being. The discussion reinforces ethical obligations to advocate for systemic change, ensuring that mental health services are accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of immigrant communities.
