We had another delicious Edible Adventure this week! This time, Assisted Living residents were treated to homemade Basque cheesecake, which is a crustless, baked cheesecake that originated in Spain. It’s known for its “burnt” exterior and creamy, custard-like interior and was a big hit in the dining room. ¡Buen provecho!

Who says you can’t eat your dessert before your lunch?! Today’s Edible Adventure brought back memories of camping, sitting by the fire and roasting marshmallows. Everyone enjoying the reimagined s’more which consisted of a crumbled cookie base topped with marshmallow sauce and a scoop of double chocolate frozen custard. Yum!

Serving Older Adults Since 1896

Over a century ago, members of Chicago's Norwegian-American community, inspired by the dream and determination of Dr. Niles T. Quales, founded the Norwegian Old People's Home. In 1896, the Norwood Park Hotel, located in Norwood Park near Nina Avenue and Avondale Avenue was purchased and served as a respite for Norwegian immigrants who needed a place to age in comfort and dignity. As the Norwegian Old People's Home evolved, so did its place in the neighborhood. The name became so synonymous with the community of Norwood Park, and eventually the facility became known as the Norwood Park Home, and later became Norwood Crossing.

Surviving a major fire, two World Wars, and the Great Depression, the world changed around Norwood Park Home, but our commitment and perseverance remained steadfast. What began as a small, charitable care facility has evolved into an award-winning, full-service, non-profit senior living community. A strong sense of community, great food, cutting-edge care and steady management have been the foundation for our success over the years.

Today, Norwood Crossing serves over 250 residents and continues to be at the forefront of senior living and healthcare, establishing a steadfast reputation of community-inspired , person-centered care. From our modest start as a small, senior hotel in a fledgling neighborhood, Norwood Crossing has evolved into a top flight senior living "community-within-a-community." We are proud to be a part of the rich history of Norwood Park and look forward to continuing our tradition and mission of enhancing the independence and well-being of older adults and Reshaping Aging© in our community and beyond.
