Amy Zier & Associates

Amy Zier & Associates Pediatric Occupational Therapy From this point the child develops the capacity to self-regulate, share attention, be reciprocal, explore and learn.

At Amy Zier & Associates, we use an approach built on the belief that development occurs within the context of the parent-child relationship. That’s why we encourage parents to take an active role. In addition, we follow a methodology that focuses on sensory integration and the brain – understanding how individual children process and respond to sensory information, and how they use their bodies t

o successfully interact with the environment and people. As such, we’re able to identify the unique challenges and strengths of your child as it relates to the ability to process sensory information received through the senses – sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, position and movement of the body and the ability to recognize the force of gravity, head movement and balance. Through the DIR® relationship-based approach, we are then able to build the relationships necessary between the child and the parent, the therapist and the parent, the child and the therapist and other key caregivers, to build the foundation your child needs for emotional, sensory, motor, language and cognitive development to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually – with lasting impact.

Enjoy the second of our six-part summer blog series. This week, pediatric occupational therapist Katy Barnes discusses DIR/Floortime-informed insights into motor milestones for parents of babies and toddlers.

Don't wait. If your child is not meeting the milestones for his or her age, or if you think there could be challenges with how your child plays, learns, speaks, acts, and moves, share your concerns. Early intervention is crucial as the first few years of life are vital for brain development and establishing foundational skills. Contact us today with questions: contact@amyzier.com

Motor milestones, such as crawling, cruising, and walking, are a window into your child’s developmental journey. In occupational therapy, movement is foundational to all areas of development.
